The Sierra Leone Government Railway from Creation to Preservation: 4 (Narrow Gauge Album)
N**.
Fascinating story of creation, operation, & destruction of an amazing railway plus superb new museum
This book is an excellent compliment to the more detailed one by Middleton Press edited by Vic Michell about Sierra Leone's railways - which also covers the independent 3' 6" mineral railway too. This book shows images that I've not seen before and gives a broader understanding of the life and ultimate destruction of this charming (but slow) and vital railway, giving an insight into the shenanigans that brought about it's demise. Also revealed is the last General Managers' serious consideration of converting it to 3' 6" gauge, which would have made it a serious transport contender with higher line speeds, load capacity etc - but external pressure demanded roads, not rail, and the scrap man won!!
