Easy kindling maker
When I first got this thing, I was disappointed, because I was using it for the wrong purpose. I was trying to split wood, and the hole was too small. BUT NOW I've discovered that it does a great job of reducing smaller pieces of wood into kindling. No dangerous swinging the hatchet near thumbs and fingers and furniture. Just place the wood over the blade where you want the split, and whack it with a hammer, and you can quickly produce more kindling than you need for the next several fires. And it's a sturdy little thing, going to last a long time. Probably worth every penny, even to an old tightwad like me.

Easier on your back than an axe for kindling production
Bought based on reviews & price. Mounted on a wood base and used with a 3# sledge, it made processed 2 cord for kindling much easier. If you split pieces that fit comfortably in the circular opening and avoid splitting pieces with prominent knots, it splits quickly. I was splitting 16" length dry pieces. Other reviews mention weld failures, but I had no problems.

Coolest tool EVER!
This is the coolest tool almost Ever!!! My husband first used this tool on vacation up north and it was super Easy to use, be sure to attach to a larger more stable piece of wood before using. Works best with softer woods.

Good little tool
I thought it would handle larger pieces of wood, but it does make cutting kindling safer and easier

Everyone with a woodstove needs one
Mounted this to a firewood rd. Midwest oak and hardwoods split EZPZ. Any hammer will make kindling withut having it scatter all over. This sits outside in weather yr round without issue

Perfect fire pit companion
Great tool for my backyard fire pit. With a small hand sledge I can turn a piece of firewood into 4 or 5 perfect kindling pieces. This is not for doing large log splitting jobs. Some pieces of my delivered wood do not fit in the hole.Sharp blade, clean splits - this is a handy tool.

Avoid! It doesn’t work, and is built poorly.
Absolutely a waste of money. We go through a lot of wood, have gas log splitters, more chainsaws than you have shoes, and regularly heat our whole house with our two wood stoves. We plenty of experience and ability, but we haven’t been able to split a single piece of wood with this thing. It’s absolutely worthless. Aside from it just plain not working, the base is also crooked. It doesn’t sit flush on a surface, and just rocks back and forth. Very poor workmanship.

Not as useful as l’d have liked, right out of the box.
The cutting edge is only 9.5” above the base, so if you mount it on a chopping block, your firewood cannot be longer than 9” or the bottom of your firewood will hit the copping block before it’s fully split. Then you end up pounding firewood into your chopping block, not across the cutting edge. To fix this l saw two choices. 1) cut all my firewood down from 16” to 8”, which is *not* a viable option. 2) as pictured here, I used a piece of pressure treated 2x12” lumber to build legs and a base. lt was simple to make, but l was fortunate to have the lumber, (and circular saw, screws, washers, & drill - you may have some but not all of these) just lying around in the shed. I tried it out and this works fine, the bottom of the 16” firewood passes below the base of the device until the top of the firewood is split through. If there is any interest at all, I’ll be happy to include the dimensions of the base I’ve made here (see pictures). It’s simple, but it may need a couple “L” brackets to make it more stout.Note that I will only be using this to split *already split*, seasoned wood into kindling. I do NOT know if this device is sturdy enough to split unseasoned, intact pieces of firewood: I have a maul, axe, and hydraulic splitter for that.
