What stared with a pair of navy blue flats designed by Joan Helpern the brand quickly expanded into a shoe empire soon followed by a full women's work wear collection. After constantly noticing women running in heels in airports, Joan & David decided to designa footwear collectiontargeted atwomen that ran in heels at work, at the airport and all day for the matter. By 1990 the Joan & David label was a common household name appearing in women's apparel in more than 100 outlets in Europe and the United States including stores such as Neiman Marcus, Ann Taylor, and of course in Joan & David boutiques.
