Problems with working with HDMI
Hi everyone! Just thought I would give a little insight on this little cable here. If you have your TV or whatever hooked up with an HDMI and you're trying to connect this with some headphone or something, you will most likely have some issues involving your xbox starting and stopping until you take either the HDMI out or this adapter out. If you're interested in still using this it is possible, you just need to work a little magic on the thing every now and then. How I got it to work (for the time being at least) is to turn the xbox on while everything is connected and slowly slide this adapter out of the socket. I was going literally, as slow as I could go just wiggling it back and forth until you get both sound and picture working and your xbox doesn't continue to power on and off. Once it's there, try not to move it around too much as this will make it start doing it again. There's something wrong with the way the xbox is designed with HDMI and this adapter and so they sort of conflict with each other and it confuses the heck out of the xbox! I hope this helps and I hope people already dealing with this issue can get some insight as to what I put here :)

Flexibility with sound output
So I had to buy another T.v. A panasonic 32 inch running 720p. Model tc-32lx34. Everything was great when I hooked up the x-box to play some call of duty until I go to plug in my turtle beach headphones :( Alas! There was no analog sound output from my t.v. = no way to connect headphones. Bummer. I wanted to watch High Def. video games through my HDMI cable, but this also by-passes the functionality of analog sounds from the x-box. I tried to plug the original analog component cables into the x-box alongside the HDMI cable- but it doesn't work. It will only recognize one output at a time. To solve my dilema, I just bought this little device which will output an analog signal for headphones while using HDMI at the same time. It was cheap and effective. My only criticism is that there is no way to turn the volume up or down without a preamp. So I export the signal to a stereo receiver and then plug my headphones into the receiver to turn up the volume. Hey, gotta hear people sneaking up behind me in Call of Duty.

Cheaply mad adapter
This optical adapter no doubt looks like the real thing. However if you are using this with hdmi and are switching inputs on your tv (as in leaving the xbox on while downloading something) to bounce back and forth from watching tv to playing on the 360, the xbox will reset itself when you switch back. The issue is widely know and if you search hdmi resetting/handoff for the 360 you will find many articles. It works fine (if you're never changing inputs), but since it was doing this and I have it hooked up to my pc monitor, I took it apart to see what was the problem. The problem is it's wired very differently from the oem xbox optical adapter. I managed to unsolder and resolder all of the wires to get it to not reset on me. The thing is the audio level of output is far less than the oem one. I have one and was using it as a comparison. Supposedly the monoprice adapter doesn't have the problem and is better, so I'd stay away from this one unless you will never be switching inputs while your xbox is on. It's too bad oem adapters are almost impossible to find nowadays. It's much more robust in it's design and construction. The OEM adapter does not have the resetting issue.

Audio works well; No reboot with a little soldering
I bought this dongle to get optical audio to use with my Turtle Beach headset when playing on my monitor. The optical audio works as expected, but the Xbox rebooting when switching inputs was unexpected. After researching the reboot issue, it seems third party audio dongles typically lack proper wiring to prevent the reboot issue. I solved the problem with the following steps:1. Pry the dongle's Xbox connector housing open with a flathead screwdriver.2. Slide the metal connector off the plastic pin housing.3. Scrape the glue off pins 22 and 24.4. Solder pins 22 and 24 together.5. Reassemble the dongle's Xbox connector and glue it shut (part of my housing was sealed with glue).Monoprice sells an audio dongle that doesn't require modification, so that unit is preferred due to being close to the same price (if you get free shipping from Amazon and include cost of shipping on Monoprice). If you do get this dongle from Amazon, the reboot issue can be bypassed if you're not afraid of a little soldering.

works as advertised.
I was weary of buying this item. I read other reviews and people posted that it didn't work, some said they had to alter it. I purchased it anyways, seeing as how IT IS ONLY $6 bucks. I bought it because my new insignia 32" lcd would not play the sound for netflix or dvd's. I did all the research in the world, and as it turns out it is my TV with the problem. I did get use out of the cable though. I hooked up the HDMI cable to the TV as well as an optical cable with the new adapter. I do get sound now for netflix... although the dvd's are hit and miss. So for the most part I am happy with my purchase, and would suggest anyone to spend the money on this, if you think its going to help your situation. I am also assuming once I buy a surround sound, it will completely fix all the problems I've had. Conclusion:Yes works as advertised.

Cheap way to prevent plugging in audio to the back of your TV
This optical audio adapter for Xbox serves its purpose and it's really cheap. I bought this due to the fact that you cannot get to the back of the TV in order to hook up Turtle Beach headsets. It makes it easy for my boys to hook their headsets up and still have the HDMI cable connected. The adapter that comes with the Xbox covers the HDMI port and therefore you have to plug into the back of the TV for audio. This devise does prevent you from having to deal with that hassle. This model does cause the Xbox to reboot if you are switching inputs on your TV from say cable over to the Xbox input - not a big deal as you just have to remember to have the input on Xbox before you start it up. There is another manufacture of this devise that does not cause reboot which I have hooked up to all three of my other Xboxs - yes I have 4 Xbox hooked up in my house. Monoprice.com sales this adapter also and it does not cause reboots. At the end of the day this is a good adapter at a cheap price. Just make sure your TV is on Xbox input before you start the Xbox and you will have no issues.

Very useful, even if you have optical audio on your version of the Xbox
Although it feels a bit cheap. It hasn't let me down. This is great for pulling the audio out of my Xbox 360 elite which I occasionally use for live stream with my Elgato game capture.I like to separate out all of my audio sources so I tend to pull the audio directly from this adapter to my mixing board so I can have the live audio stream while still sending the audio over HDMI to my capture card for recording.I have also tried out the optical audio function of this and was not disappointedl
