Hidden: Animals in the Anthropocene

Heroic Effort Gives Voice to Unimaginable Suffering
Joaquin Phoenix compassionate opening words set the stage for this landmark and important work. Hidden is intelligent, well written and mercifully not as horrifying as it could have been. I feared opening it because my love for animals is so great I feel physical pain when I see or hear of animal suffering. The photos are brutally honest. They tell the complete story of animal suffering. The photographers have too much respect for animals to cross the line. They show us how beautiful animals are, even as they are being torn apart alive. The photos show us mothers, fathers, babies, trying to survive in a situation that is hopeless and without any shred of compassion. The most important fact about what this book has done, is not that it is a collection of horrible images, but it is a collection of beautiful sentient individuals that are a rallying cry.

Bless Everyone Who Reads This Book
If you're familiar with the plight of animals exploited by humans, you won't be surprised at the content of this book. The images are hard, really hard, to look at. So all I can say is bless everyone who cares about, and takes the time to witness, the suffering.Especially bless the photographers who took the images: who intentionally exposed themselves, first-hand, to the suffering, so they could document it.The photographs are moving, haunting, and illuminating. The text is an illuminating complement to the photos. It's a profound and worthy book, and photographer Jo-Anne McArthur's work is well worth supporting. So please buy it and share what you learn.

An important and meaningful book
This book shows the reality of everyday life for animals as a source of food and entertainment for humans, and how they have come to be seen as nothing more than manufactured "widgets." Humans have shielded themselves from this truth in various ways, including by creating a mental disconnect between their beloved pets and the animals on their plates. This book is a great reminder of how our actions impact these beautiful and intelligent beings.

I received my copy of Hidden a few days ago. It rests on the extra chair in my office. I make eye contact with the suffering pig on the cover throughout the day. What can I do, a meat eater who contributes to Mercy For Animals? The question loomed and then the answer found - remove myself from the industry. Buy LOCAL. Humane. Grass fed.Stemple Creek Ranch near Tomales Bay. And continue to support animal rights groups.Highly recommended.

An inside look into the animal agriculture.
All the pictures are printed with great care. The photographs are made with compassion. The editing, as well as the writing, is all first rate. It's an eye opening documentary photo book.

Humans at their worst.
The photography in this book is very telling of what we have become. We are all guilty of harming the wonderful creatures God has graced us with. If you eat meat know where and how your food is processed. The tortures these simple creatures have endured for the sake of our food is heartbreaking.

Shocking, but absolutely needed.
Expensive, but a truly heartbreaking photo book. Some of the pictures in here are horribly graphic, but knowing what animal agriculture does to sentient animals it could have been much worse. One day, in the near future I hope, our kids will look at this book and be horrified and appalled at what their ancestors did to innocent creatures. All totally unnecessary too.

Brave, beautiful, harrowing, essential.
A beautifully, if harrowing, put together collection of images from around the world showing how human animals dominate, exploit, and abuse all other animals. Its large and close up. But such important work to do. So important to educate all of humanity about what really happens, to help find our compassion, and to move to a kinder future. Buy it. Support we animals media. Help to expose the grotesque lie, we are kind to animals, that we are bombarded with daily.

Worth the price
I held off on purchasing this book initially as I was concerned the price was too high.I'm happy to say it's worth its weight. The book in itself quality-wise is lovely. The pages, the hard cover, the photos, everything is clean and beautiful. It's a book I intended to have as a "coffee table" book.So much credit goes out to the photographers and authors. They all managed to capture different aspects of humans relationships with animals that represent what's really happening all around the world.
