Just finished up the book THE PEOPLE OF YOYO: Who We Are And Where To Find Us, from @mryoyothrower- It’s a collection of history, thoughts, and stories from all corners of the yo-yo world; hobbyists, collectors, teachers, competitors, etc.- I loved this book. I’ve been out of yo-yoing for the last 30 years and this really helped fill in what I missed. There are so many great anecdotes. I learned a lot.- I greatly appreciated the book’s emphasis on community as well as the therapeutic benefits of yo-yo, especially in regards to helping with anxiety, depression, and ADHD. It was also nice to see a part of the prose dedicated to the non-male portion of the community.- Hands down my favorite part of the book was the 77 Rules For Yoyo Players, from the wizard @edhaponik (wisdom thrown down from the mountain). 🖤- Highly recommended if you wanna know more about the wonderful world of spin. 🪀 📚#readingiscool

Yo! Learn about the diverse world of yoyers.. and why you might just love it too!
Awesome! I grew up during the late 90s yoyo boom in the USA, but by middle school I'd retired my box of yoyos and switched interests. Well with lots of free time recently I decided to tune up my old yomega raider... and get a new string... and next thing I know I'm discovering what all has changed with yoyos in the last 2 decades and wow.... it's wild. This book helped me find out about lots of neat parts of the yoyo community and ways for me to have fun with other throwers!

What a joyful read!
Excellent book on why we Yo! These stories of the journey of how the yo-yo has changed so many people’s lives is shared through these pages. Mr Yoyothrower does an excellent job of explaining the how and why people join in this activity. I’m now motivated to reflect on my own yo-yo journey as a teacher of yo who only started yo-young at 35. Now at 64 I am motivated to learn more, not only the skills, but the interesting history of this skill toy. Take time during this interesting time and have an enjoyable read!

Do you know someone that plays yoyo? Read this book. Do you yoyo? Read this book.
I am insufferably slow at reading through a book. When I started reading The People of Yoyo, I read about 80% of it in a couple weeks, near in time to when I started back into yoyoing. And today, 1.5 years later, I just finished the book. But this gives me a very unique perspective on this book. When I started the book, I rediscovered modern yoyoing. I did a little in college. I learned some of the basic modern yoyoing tricks described in this book (the bind, boingy-boing, etc.). And then I stopped for about 5 years. In 2019 I picked it up again, as well as this book. What I discovered before buying this book was how zen it was to throw a yoyo. It is a gratifying, challenging, eccentric thing that helped me stay sane. I also discovered there are myriad people in the yoyo community that are truly awesome. The author of this book is one of those. Not only did he sell me a few yoyos, and a book to boot, but he was kind and generous to me. Mr. McKay is a truly good person who loves to see others succeed more than himself. Nearly every page of this book is an example of that, and yet, he is a great yoyoer and example in his own right. And what I discovered is that his kindness is not rare. As you'll read in this book, and discover if you pick up a yoyo and post on the Throwers Reddit, find a yoyo discord, or join a yoyoing Facebook group, is that there are hundreds, if not thousands of people who are kind, generous, and helpful. There are people of all kinds that find common joy in a silly toy. I found that beyond the common interest are hundreds of people that deserve respect, admiration, and appreciation for their dedication, kindness, and uniqueness. This book is about that. The point of this book is to highlight the value of human beings. The yoyo is a secondary factor. It might be about yoyoing, but this book is a description of a microcosm of human kindness, perseverance, and comradery. If you want to feel good about humanity and are tired of all the disgusting toxicity that exists lately, I encourage you to give this book a read.Even if you don't care at all about yoyoing (you should probably try it though, believe me it's fun), you can at least appreciate that there are still communities of diverse people sharing in joy who are not part of a cult. Mr. McKay has done a fantastic job on this book in the quality of the writing, but even more than that, he has done incredible work to collect the words, thoughts, and feelings of so many people that deserve a voice. Now that I've been totally vested in the yoyoing world for over 2 years, I fully intend to re-read this book. And I think it's going to be even more awesome the second time. That's because I've met and spoken to a lot of the people in this book! It's a small world here, and the heroes are also just people, and they think of themselves that way. You can easily reach out and talk to some amazingly talented people. They'll give you advice, they will be generous, and they will be kind. And here's the phone book. :)So, yeah, it's a 5 star book. Fight me.

An amazing look into the world of yoyoing! -Robert Huffman
Let’s just start with the fact that I believe every thrower needs to read this book! It truly is a work of art, the way Jeremy catalogs and accounts for so many people an their stories old and new is astonishing. From the time you turn the first page (digitally in my case) you are absolutely hooked, you get this overwhelming since of joy as to who’s story is going to be on the next page. He does an amazing job going from his personal accounts of yoyoing to maintaining everyone else’s story in a fantastic manor. I’m the type of person that likes to find out all I can about a hobby and this helps fill that need. Watching YouTube or Instagram videos is fantastic but you never get everything. When pen is put to paper you get to see the real side of people and how this hobby has helped them in a lot of the aspects of their life. Just like yoyoing has helped me overcome challenges in my life, this book has shown me that I’m not alone as well. It further pushes me to want to help teach the next generation to deal problems that may arise and have the ability to escape into the world of yoyoing. I’ll be picking this up as a paperback to add to myself to pick up from time to time for inspiration. To Jeremy, Thank you for such an amazing book. I look forward to your next one!

Insight into yoyo subculture
This book is an excellent foray into the minds of people that enjoy yoyoing. Including why they enjoy it and/or how they got into it. I highly recommend it! This would make a great gift for anyone interested in skill toys!
