Magic Moments - The Best of '50s Pop [DVD]

So Glad I Found This
I was raised by my grandparents and so I grew up listening to this music, not only on an "oldies" radio station back in the '80s, but also from our record player. I knew all of the songs and also the performers. When this aired on PBS it was one of the gifts for supporting PBS and the fastest to empty from the shelves. I have been looking for this for a few years and couldn't find it for the price. The entire production is great and it brings back fond memories of my childhood and my grandparents.

Not the best of the 50's;
As usual they mislabel the title: This is not the best of the 50's, but, for the most part is good. Pat Boone seems to get a lot of attention, but he only sings part of a song (flash-back) and does a lot of talking. Poor Patti Page should have let them play the original version of her singing Old Cape Cod as she seems to have lost some of her voice range. It was great for me to see the Diamonds together again for the first time in many years. I have a feeling that this was not the complete show, and if I am right, that means they will come out with another DVD later on just to make more money. Over all, it makes for a nice night out (in your living room) with popcorn and soda pop or a malt. Invite your grand-children, they need to get away from what they have been living on. The quality of the DVD is very good, just look for the best price, of course. +JMJ+

Excellent nostalgia concert
I saw this concert on PBS, another entry in the My Music concert series produced by T. J. Lubinsky, and found it to be excellent. It is refreshing to hear some of these old timers who can still belt it out, and very educational for some of us folks younger than seventy who just enjoy good music, but haven't seen many of these artists for obvious reasons. It is an excellent DVD, and although the McGuire Sisters did look a bit alarming, it is still a worthwhile addition to anyone's music performance library.

Good seller
My DVD was cracked, but the seller sent me a new one with no hassle. I am so grateful. My husband and I are both ill in our 70s, and the nostalgia of this DVD brought back so many happy memories.

A great gift for my 87 year old mother who loves music.
This was for my mother to be able to watch some of her favorite musicians. They did not have music videos back in her day. We both enjoy watching and dancing to this.

Heavenly nostalgia
To anyone who was alive during the heyday of late50s/early 60s pop, this PBS concert recorded in 2004 is a heavenly experience. It is thrilling to find that many of the stars of the period are not only still alive, but singing as well as ever. Among the women, Patti Page, Gogi Grant, Debbie Reynolds and the Maguire Sisters, are a delight, as are the 'boy' groups such as The Four Lads, The Four Preps, The Four Aces and The Diamonds (whose knockout revival of their great hit Little Darlin' has already been a YouTube sensation). It's all wonderful, including rare clips of people like Perry Como, Johnny Ray and Rosemary Clooney. I haven't had so much joy from anything in a long time.

Not Worth Your Time and money
This DVD is a waste of time if you are interested in the Magic Moments of the 50's. It will be worth your time if you want to know what has become of them. The package is deceiving showing vintage B&W stills and list of 50's acts. The DVD was actually a 2004 show at one of Donald Trump's Casinos picked up by PBS. (shame on PBS) . That should say it all. This disappointing show is horrifying. Seeing these 50's singers in the 90's is like attending a funeral. So sad to see what they are and how they have lost their youth. Being old, I realize it happens, but to document it on video is cruel. It was a good idea for Marilyn Monroe to pose for Playboy in the early 50's but if she was alive today, would it be such a great idea for her to try to recreate that pose?? I think not! If you want to know what ever became of these people this may be for you. If you have an interest in seeing one of the Chordettes sing with 3 unnamed singers and calling themselves The Chordettes, this may be for you as well. The McGuire sisters look like an ad for "When Botox and plastic surgery go horribly wrong". Frightening is being kind. They should have stayed home and dusted off some old clips if they really wanted you to see the 50's. The few vintage clips are marred by people talking over them and being cut short. The only saving grace is that they all were able to leave their wheel chairs back stage! All in all not worth your time if you are interested in the 50's!

Magic Moments
It is great to see the acts performing again, however the audio quality left a lot to be desired. I saw the show on our local PBS station and the audio track was great.

incredible 50's concert
Thank you Amazon....I have not seen this great DVD available at the usual movie stores in my area. Once again you have provided me with a genuine classic. Many of the artists on this DVD are in their late 70's and still perform just a well as they did 50 years ago . The transfer is near perfect, the image is sharply defined and the sound is smooth and clear. The bonus features contain several interesting interviews with the performers.
