Most usable width of any pullout shelf
Unlike most pullout rack shelves which have the shelf glides on the sides of the unit, this one has them on the bottom. With this arrangement, the shelf has the greatest usable width of any shelf that I was able to find on the market. In many cases, to mount a wide item on a pullout shelf, the shelf must be mounted upside down to provide the maximum available width. Doing so, however, means you lose 1U of space in your rack. In some cases, that 1U can't be spared. This shelf allows a flat item to be installed on the shelf within the 1U that the shelf itself occupies. This can be invaluable. The glides have a smooth action and a detent when fully retracted. The shelf also has a full plate underneath it, so the item below it cannot touch or interact with the shelf itself. The shelf seems sturdy though I am using it with a relatively light piece of gear weighing only about 5 pounds. The shelf is heavy, weighing about 10 pounds by itself. I've been looking for a shelf like this for some time and have been delighted with this item. I would definitely consider purchasing another even if not constrained by space.

Great shelves, but a bit heavy for portable applications.
Bought two of these, they work great in my rack case with some old vintage rack synths in it, I have some effect pedals, a drum machine, a sequencer, etc on these. It's really nice to have everything secure in the same case so I don't have to unplug anything to go gig, but these shelves add ten pounds each to the weight (and then all the gear I have on them too), so now I've made my rack case too heavy for my wife to help me man-handle it to the car, and I have to buy a dolly to get it in and out of the house. First world noise musician problems, I guess, LOL. Anyways, yeah, to sum up: very high quality product that fit my case and functions exactly how I need, but a bit heavy for portable applications. Penn Elcom makes good stuff.

Slick and practical
The media could not be loaded. I now use this to hide a qsc TouchMix soundboard inside a rack from cold piro that we use at shows and that makes a mess of top of all of our gear, and since the board can be accessed with an iPad this makes it very slick and practical way to do my job

Nice shelf slider
I needed a place to put my laptop and docking station to get it out of the way. Being that it is a two post slider, you really cannot go too larger. I could only use a two post product and this worked out perfectly. I did add a little support for the heavy cables that hang off the back of the shelf so that it wouldn't mess with the dock cable connectors.

Expensive but sturdy
Expensive but worth it. It’s really sturdy.

One Star
It's not a sliding unit. Just a shelf. Wrong picture and wrong description. Had to return.

Excellent solidly built, sliding rack-mounted shelf.
Hi. I bought this item in June 2016, although from Penn Elcom in the U.K. It arrived in the advertised time and was exactly as described (although I noticed that in the product summary it says it is 1U high). It is a sliding shelf which extends out from a 2U high fixed chassis fixed at the front with 4 standard bolts. It is very solidly constructed out of heavy grade steel with a flawless black powder coated finish. Consequently it is quite heavy.I use my sliding shelf for my music mixer in a portable sound rig. I am very pleased with the product and it has performed well on many outings without any issues. When extended, carrying the weight of my mixer, there is NO deflection or "sagging".
