Great for all parents!
Our kids are both hearing and we used this and other books to teach them sign language while they were pre-verbal. Kid's brains think before their vocal muscles can function, which produces great frustration when they know what they want to tell you but can't (AKA terrible twos!). We gave them a way to communicate and our 6 mo - 3 years was EASY sailing (they still pitched a fit when they didn't get what they wanted, of course, but the fit was due to their age, not because they were frustrated because we couldn't understand what they were trying to tell us - HUGE difference). Their verbal development came right on time and then we all stopped using the signs naturally. Although, they are now almost into teens and when we're in a restaurant or crowded place and not within hearing distance without shouting, the signs still come in really handy LOL!

great sign board book
this book has instructions and pictures for 14 asl signs. they are hat, teddy bear, spoon, apple, shoes, book, flower, ball, cup, baby, bowl, crackers, socks, and crayons. my only criticisms are1. the pictures are outdated, they look like they are from 1983 but i guess babies don't care about that.2. two words, teddy bear and crayons, are combinations of two signs which i think might be more complicated than a baby needs. i only do the first parts for my daughter.all that said these are objects babies see all the time, they are relatively easy to learn and in a sturdy board book so i highly reccomend it.

Not my favorite baby sign language book
Just didn't spark my 1 yr old's interest as much as other signing books. She was really into signing at 8 months, talking before a year and now at 2.5 yrs speaks in full, grammatically correct sentences using big words. Books, especially about signs, really peaked her interest, but not this one for some reason.

Not useful words
I thought this book would have words that would actually be helpful if the baby knew like milk, sleep, diaper etc. It does not.

Four Stars
Sight language allows communication before language skills are developed and reduces frustration for the very young.
