Required Studies for Classical Guitar Book/Online Audio

I am a former violinist who studied some jazz guitar 30 years ago, and I am teaching myself classical guitar. There are many wonderful studies in this collection - enough to keep me busily improving both left and right hand technique for a long time. I whole-heartedly recommend this volume to anyone who is serious about learning classical guitar and has the dedication to work through the studies. By the way, I have discovered that it's fun to skip around through the book and take on challenges posed by a variety of composers, rather than sticking with just one composer until all of those selections have been worked through methodically.

The compass of the "required studies" would stretch into several years' worth of learning from the works of the great masters: Sor, Carulli, Guiliana, Carcassi, Aguado, and Coste, and popular "audition selections" including the most famous works of Tarrega. The spiral bound book has a large page and easy to read format. There are recommended fingerings for most scores and plenty of marginal space for writing in notes for performance.

A good collection of pieces for the classical or fingerstyle guitar player. I think these kind of pieces will provide training in technique as well as sightreading ability. Clear and distinct printing. A. Hoff from Norway

Very nice collection of etudes

Choking on the price? Don't, it's well worth it. It's NOT a beginners book but is an excellent purchase for a guitar music library. I can't even begin to say how many classical guitar books I've looked at that had TAB (oh man, forget about TAB - learn to read music people) or simplistic arrangements for the first 3 frets. This book is for serious students of the guitar - as are all of Mr. Willard's books (this is my 3rd). I cannot recommend it more - and (bonus points) it has a comb binding!! So you can actually place it vertical on a music stand and not have to use clothes pins to keep the pages down. Enjoy, I know I do.

I would like to have seen a full list of the songs included prior to buying because I was looking for a particular song. Other than that, it is exactly what it said it was.

Excellent book. It contains all studies that I had to learn in my years of guitar learning, but now in one single book.

Quite a difficult study book to handle without a teacher so advisable to progress through the book and not jump into difficult pieces into the book.
