This cable worked just fine. I'm assuming the failures in the other reviews were largely because of the issue that many Logitech mice are plagued with. The cable doesn't seat properly when you lead it through the way its designed to be. The very simple fix for this is to pull in a couple extra inches of chord and loop it around inside the body. This takes the tension off the connection and makes it more reliable.I will update my review if this cable fails.

Easy to replace but the cable lacks some of the reinforcement the original had where it exits the front of the mouse. So far no issues.

Original cable on my MX518 lasted almost 13 years. This cable... less than 20 hours. Like the original it is broken where it enters the mouse. The cable is far stiffer than any other mouse I own.

This cable worked for 7 months of light to moderate use, and then developed a short where the cable exits the front of my beloved MX518 (may she never die).This time I ordered Eathtek New Mouse USB Cable / USB Mouse Line For Logitech MX518 MX510 MX500 MX310 G1 G3 which appears to be much closer to the OEM cable that came with the mouse, and lasted for the first 8 years or so.This cable is very stiff and the internal data wires, which are exposed near the internal plug, are of a cheaper quality. The Eathtek cable linked above is both more flexible and the internal wires look to be of higher quality.Summary: If you're replacing your cable for the first time, I recommend you try the Eathtek first. If that's out of stock, this cable worked fine for me for 7 months. That's better than buying a whole new mouse.
