Most Wonderful
This shovel made easy work of digging a 20 foot trench for a gas line.

Great trenching shovel, but also...
For me this shovel works great whenever I need to pull a sprinkler head up. Just cut through the sod around the sprinkler and then lever it (carefully) up using the shovel. Small adjustments can be accomplished in no time.

Damaged upon arrival, good trenching shovel otherwise.
Review Edit:I decided to exchange the trenching shovel within the allowed timeframe and the replacement was shipped and received within 2 days of submitting the exchange request. The replacement has no damage, but the shovel was still shipped loosely in the same sized cardboard box as the first shovel. Overall, if you dont mind the possibility of receiving a damaged product and having to delay a trenching job so that you can exchange it, I think this shovel is about the best quality you can get for the money. I have revised my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars due to the hassle free exchange process. Read below for my original review.Original Review:I researched trenching shovels yo find what I believed was the best compromise between price, quality, and durability. And while I do not believe I made a bad choice with this Corona 4in Trench Shovel, I am concerned that the wood handle was either damaged in the warehouse or during shipping due to the fact that there was no packing material or plastic wrap securing/protecting the loose shovel in the cardboard box it shipped in.The shovel arrived with mild damage to the box and several dents/scaring and a quarter sized splintering crack in the handle at the exact area where your hand would be during routine use of the shovel. Reference the images I attached to the review for tge worst of the damage. I will need to either sand this damage down or put a handle wrap around this area to make it safer to use.Considering that any shovel can be broken under extreme conditions or incorrect/abusive use, I feel that the over all design of the shovel is better and more durable than what I could find at my local home improvement stores, all of which only sold trenching shovels with fiberglass handles or with a thinner 14 gauge steel blade. This product being made with a traditional wood handle and a thicker 12 gauge steel blade make it stonger and more durable than the competition. To add even more strength to the shovel design Corona has stamped two elongated divots that serve to stiffen up the already thicker steel blade. I purchased this shovel for trenching irrigation pipes and underground electrical conduits. This shovel works best when paired with a standard spade shovel to remove grass and help form the initial opening of the trench. Once the soil is exposed the trench shovel helps to both clear the soil from the trench and form clean trench walls. When large rocks and tree roots are encountered, you should use a digging iron, axe, or pick-axe to clear the obstruction rather than the trenching shovel which is only suitable for prying on small fist-sized rocks or shrub roots no larger than your pinky. In the end I will still give a good overall rating for this shovel, but I deducted one star for the poor condition it arrived in. I would expect this kind of result if the product was sold in a damaged-clearance product catagory and not in the new condition as it was adverised. Only time will tell if it lives up to my expectations. I just wish the warehouse would improve their quality assurance, product handling and/or shipping practices to prevent this from happening.

Really fine shovel
I was skeptical because I’ve never had such a narrow shovel before, or one with that steep angle, or one in such a striking color. But all three of those characteristics worked well. It’s narrow and quite sharp and perfect for digging trenches (for a power line, 12” deep), and that angle, it’s still a bit odd but I’m getting used to it and I think it actually helps. And the color, well it’s pretty. I’m very pleased with this.

Handle isn't up to the task
The metal part is decent, but the handle can't handle the leverage - cracked just after the return window. The design would be improved with a foot step on the backside of the blade.

Great Trench Shovel
The wood handle makes it heavier than I’d like but it’s relatively easy to use even with arthritis. It’s done heavy duty work in clay mud, rocks, sod… for 4 months & doing great. It’s well-balanced & I’m happy I got it in pretty bright orange.

Heavy
I thought it was a light weight spade for gardening. It’s a standard shovel size Handel with the perfect size spade. Could be sharper !! For what I need it for

Great shovel
I used this in rocky, tree root filled ground and it worked well. It's strong enough to dig through the packed ground and get out the rocks. It's not designed to cut through tree roots but its size allows you to dig around them and then cut them off.

Brilliant!
Way easier than using a regular shovel. Made short work of a 30 metre trench, about 50cm deep. Had to take two scoops to get to that depth, but it was so easy. Caveat: we are on an old lake bed and the soil is sandy. Pretty sturdy though, and stood up well in the few stony parts I hit.

Snapped On First Day
Title says it all - bought for trenching and it snapped pretty quick into trenching (see attached picture for progress made before snapping). Make sure to purchase an all steel one like this really solid Fiskar one (not sure if they have these types of shovels though. The Amazon warranty period is 30 days so make sure if you buy, it’s close to the time of your project in case this happens. The orange shovel blade was great but I wish the top curl part was bigger for my clown feet though lol

Well made handy tool.
I used this tool to dig a narrow deep trench for some gas piping in CLAY.The length of the handle saved my back and the pointed end helped to penetrate the #$&* CLAY!Made a miserable job a little less miserable!
