Spicy World Yellow Corn Meal Medium Grind 4 Pound (64oz) - Great for Cornbread, Muffins

The grit on this is just right for a toothier cornbread, wish it was non GMO (perhaps I missed that in the description?). Most cornmeal is too fine and makes a more bread-like corn muffin. The flavor is very good and comes through evenly. I add cooked bacon bits to my cornbread and the heavier corn taste really pairs well. Use coconut oil instead of vegetable oil and now you're talking a nice crispy slight crust bite with real flavor inside. I've also tried using various flours with this meal including gluten free and it holds everything together well. I keep this as a staple in my kitchen.The packaging is also a plus as it seals well over and over and can take being frozen inside another freezer bag without ripping or coming apart. I try many corn meals and also cornbread mixes and nothing comes close to this brand. The price is pretty good compared to the outrageous 'specialty' meals on Amazon. If you like doughy flour type cornbread this isn't for you. Have served this cornbread to hungry workmen on break and it was unanimously deemed a winner.

The headline says it. The prices found here on mere ground corn are outrageous.

Not what I expected.

We normally purchase our cornmeal (white and yellow) from War Eagle Mill Farms. But their products are not consistently available due to crop conditions. After many reviews and looking over many different brands, we went with Spicy World. You get quite a bit in the bag. The yellow cornmeal works great for coating catfish, making pan cornbread and hot water cornbread. The texture is a medium almost fine texture. I like some larger pieces for crunch but not necessary with this product. I still get the good crunch when frying fish. This is now my go to. Is it pricey? Anything of good quality usually is. But this is a large amount and will last a long time.
