From the Manufacturer The Ju 87B series was to be the first mass produced variant. The first variant, the Ju 87 B-0, was produced in small numbers. A total of six Ju 87 B-0s were produced, built from Ju 87 A airframes. The next major variant was the Ju 87 B-1 with a considerably larger engine, its Junkers Jumo 211D generating 1,200 PS (883 kW, 1,184 hp), and the fuselage and landing gear were completely redesigned. This new design was again tested in Spain, and after proving its abilities there, production was ramped up to 60 per month. As a result, by the outbreak of World War II the Luftwaffe had 336 Ju 87 B-1s on hand. The B-1 was also fitted with "Jericho trumpets", essentially noise-making propellers with a diameter of 0.7 m (2.3 ft). This was used to damage enemy morale and enhance the intimidating effect of dive-bombing. 1:48 scale - Plastic scale model kit. Skill level 2 (where 1 is for the beginner and 4 is for the more experienced modeller). Dimensions length 225mm x width 287mm. Number of parts 86. Construction and painting required yes, glue and paints need to be purchased separately.

airfix ju-87
The bad:there was a lot of flashingfit was off, required putty. No swastikas for the tail, have to use aftermarket.external panel lines (not accurate for any airplane)The good:the plastic was very thick, gave the model a lot of strength and allowed extensive sanding and shaping.propeller spins nicelydetailed pilot and gunner/radioman figuresexternal rivet points (very accurate for the stuka)I got this because i wanted to build a 1:48 Ju-87 Libya Afrika Korps and this was the only 1:48 I could find, after a lot of work, it turned out nicely.

I was surprised to find when I opened the box that the 1:48 was much smaller than I expected. It is still ok.

It's an old Airfix kit re-boxed with flaws...
Initial perception looking at the nice artwork and packaged item, and with it being an iconic Luftwaffe Dive-Bomber of WWII, I was tempted to buy this. But, after building this model, "Beware the Wolf in Sheep clothing" comes to mind. This is an old Airfix kit that has been re-packaged to re-sell it, to boost its dwindling sales. Nothing has been done to the old molds to improve the product. It has raised rivet details...lots of them, like measles exaggerated, no finely recessed panel line details that one expects and enjoys from newer kits, thick canopies and navigation light lens and fit issues when it comes to the joints and seams of assembled parts. I had to put filler on every joint and seam to hide gaps, which were wide on the underside of the wing to fuselage roots. The Stuka dive-bomber was renowned for its intimidating fear instilling screaming sirens as it dive-bombed its targets, but, this kit doesn't include the sirens on the fronts of the wheel fairings....I ask...what is a Stuka without its sirens?!The positives about this kit are that Airfix did add extra detail to the insides of the fuselage walls, the decals are up-to-date, thin and matted down and go on excellently to give a painted on look if applied on top of a gloss clear coat then finished with a matte coat, but, there are no tail Swastikas included; I used Aeromaster after market decals to complete mine. The instructions are clear and understandable- 13 stages of assembly, the paint and decal guide is in color, which is always nice, although Airfix would gain more respect if they included top brand paint manufacturers equivalent references for those modelers that live outside of the UK and do not have access to Humbrol paints. Would I recommend this kit to the serious modeler...NO, and I wouldn't waste money on after market extras to try to enhance an aged kit when I feel that the manufacturer should be spending their money to enhance their old kit. Would I recommend this for the beginner modeler....Yes, for it will provide an exercise in developing filling, sanding, fitting and modification skills provided patience is adopted during the process. Overall...with some patience, modification work and applied skills, you can turn it around to look like a reasonable representation of the Ju87B-2 Stuka, but, if I was to model the Stuka again, I would spend the extra money on a well engineered kit with added extras that included PE and Resin enhancements.

Purchased for my elderly husband who wanted to try his hand at modelmaking! He is progressing well and enjoying the creation. May be the start of an interesting hobby!Delivery was swift and packaging secure. Would recommend this company
