Star Wars The High Republic: The Great Jedi Rescue

Great visual companion
A great visual companion to the first High Repiblic book. Yes it is aimed at younger readers but it manages to get across the Part 1 of the book in 22 pages but tge book takes 128 pages. Obviously it does not cover everything but enough to get the story across. Great art work as well. If I was going to find something to complain about it is that it us only 22 pages but I have bought comics with the same amount of pages for the same amount if money.

Quite pleased with it to my surprise
In order to try and test this new sub Star Wars franchise, the High Republic, I bought this illustrated story book for my children. Also because I like to collect children’s Star Wars books. And this 25-page soft cover booklet was quite affordable. I’m not disappointed. The story line is thin and straightforward with action and Jedi heroes. The characters are somewhat plausible though no background is presented which makes it hard to relate to them. The colourful art is actually quite nice, somewhat similar to the Golden Book Star wars material, though with more detail. My children were a little puzzled by it asking questions about the new planet presented and Jedi characters, but didn’t reject it. The youngest was keen to use the sticker sheets.I’m not sure if this lures me in enough to buy and read the High Republic novels. Maybe I buy one for my daughter. But if more illustrated material becomes available I will probably buy it.As a big old wrinkly Star Wars fan I’m always a bit reluctant to venture away from the core movie and series canon, certainly if it is situated in an era where very few of the familiar characters will be around. After all, one of the big charms of the Star wars universe is that many things and storylines are interconnected with specific details and characters popping up in different locations. For this reason I was never much into the Old Republic material though I quite liked the some of the expanded universe comic books and narratives.

Great visuals to accompany Light of the Jedi. Would’ve liked a few more pics of other scenes thus 4/5.

A great young readers version of Light of the Jedi
A great way to introduce young readers to the High Republic Era of Star Wars. A kid friendly perspective on the Legacy Run disaster. Also, official illustrations of characters and situations from Light of the Jedi. Cool to see what the Longbeams and Vectors look like!

Together with the Wookie padawan Burryaga as the cute and brave protagonist the readers experience a summarised version of the events of "Light of the Jedi". The text is short and easy to understand, the artworks support the fantasy of the reader.
