It's not one of those thin paper gaskets but it's not cork either. It kind feels like cork. It works like it's supposed to.

This was the cheepest but did the best job.
I had installed a new cast aluminum transmission ban with the thin rubber gasket provided & I had leaks. Then I purchased the most expensive ($67) & had the same. Installed the Gel-pro & no leaks.
