This thing is a life saver!
I have been thinking about what to write in this review since I got it because it such a great product for so many reasons. I would really recommend it.I have had chronic insomnia for at least 25 years. Then I developed a nervous system disorder and now my nervous system does not shut off and it’s very difficult to sleep. If I do fall asleep, the slightest thing wakes me up and jars me just enough that I cannot fall asleep for hours if at all again that night. I cannot nap during the day and so if my sleep is ruined during the night I can’t make it up during the day. On top of this I am an extremely light sleeper. I swear if a mouse farts in the Barn it wakes me up.I have had to sleep with a fan on for my entire adult life. This is really a problem in the winter and in small bedrooms. Recently I moved in with someone with small children who scream a lot. The screaming really sets me on edge and stresses me out and increases my anxiety. Which then makes sleeping harder, etc etc. aside from all that I also am an introvert and need alone time just to myself. I love my family but these are the things I need. This thing is WONDERFUL and exactly what I needed!! It goes loud. Loud enough for what I need, but most of the time it’s on less than half volumn. I don’t know if it would drown out the rave next door type sound, but it covers a lot. I still hear percussive sounds but they aren’t as jarring either. I have also been sleeping deeper than usual. It creates a peaceful little cocoon so that I can relax and have the best chance at sleeping. The volumn goes from very quiet to very loud so it’s easy to find the best setting for my needs. Now the sounds themselves. I am very picky about my “fan” noises. I did not think the fan sounds sounded authentic, but they were all pretty nice sounds and no breaks, they were continuous sound. But because none sounded like my actual fan, I couldn’t use them. They were nice though, and I think they would work for most people. The white noise sounds were also great and I found one that lulled me right into being relaxed enough to sleep. It’s perfect and my go to setting now. The other sounds like chirping birds and rain were also pleasant and for someone who just needed a little help relaxing or refocusing at bedtime those are nice too. I just didn’t find them to be constant-every-second coverage that I need. But there are so many sounds total that there should be something for everyone. There is also a nice soft glow night light IF you want it, or it has a fade in and out or completely off. I haven’t used the timer functions because I need my sound to run solid till I get up or to drown out the outside world. I did try the time function though and it seemed easy, you tap it and it shows you 30,60 or 90 minutes. It’s also small and so can be put into my suitcase and also takes up little room on my nightstand. The buttons are also slightly depressed so you can tell where the beginning is and count over the number of depressions till you find the one you want to change without having to lift your head to look.I LOVE this machine and don’t know what took me so long to buy it. It works exactly how I need it to. I don’t think I can ever live without it again! I never thought I could find something to replace my fan but this product filled the bill. I would recommend it.

Great options, design, & sound quality
I've had this for nearly 3 months now. So, finally tossed all my homedics ones! My previous 2 homedics sound devices were hard to hold 1-handed. Which is what you'll be doing all the time when you have a baby, using 1 hand. They were too slippery and odd shaped to hold. The homedics also sounded like they were recorded by an 80s toy or something with a broken mic. I almost exclusivity use nature sounds and They sound really good on this dream egg. It's easy to hold, clean, operate. It has great sound & a great 2 function light. Only missing a battery (by design)the... it has to be plugged in.

A high pitched hum plays when light is on, waking baby
4/27/19 EDIT: The company followed through on their promise to send me one of the updated models. The model number has not changed, and I don't see any way to tell the earlier model apart from the update, which is unfortunate. However, the humming problem described in my below review is not present in the updated model DreamEgg sent. As a result (and due to stellar customer service), I'm updating my rating to five stars.Original review:The sound features of this white noise machine work very well. There is no detectable loop on any of the sounds as far as I can tell, and the ability to set a timer (30, 60, 90) or let it run indefinitely is great for sleep training our little girl.Trouble is, the nightlight feature of this unit is really unusable due to a high pitched humming sound that plays with the white noise if the light is on. There is also a physical vibration that begins in the unit when the light is turned on, which persists until the light is turned off. For the life of me I cannot figure out why this is designed this way, as LED lights are the most energy efficient lighting option and require too little energy to produce an auditory hum. I worry that the lights used in this unit *aren't* LEDs and may pose a safety risk, though I haven't yet noticed the unit get warm or hot. That hum, though, is high pitched and disrupts the white noise sound enough to wake me, my wife, and the baby. It's not super loud but stands out due to the high pitch. And it's bloody annoying. We do not and will not use the light feature for this reason, which is unfortunate because the light is otherwise useful for seeing the buttons in the dark.Three stars for the essentially useless light. I'd have paid a bit more for a functional light that doesn't wake the baby.Edit 3/2/19: Now I hear the high pitched hum persistently when the unit is turned off in addition to when the light is on. I will return and exhange for a new one because this might be a hardware defect. A hum like this can be caused by bad wiring in the product (though in my experience that's only at higher voltages). I have no idea what could be causing this and can only hope it's a defect because the unit is otherwise great. Will update after exchange.Edit 3/19/19: The manufacturer reached out to me in response to this review and issued me a replacemeny device. The replacement has the same problem as both my original unit and the exchange I requested from Amazon. The company has told me that they will be releasing a new version of this product sometime around April 2019, and they claim to have solved this problem in that design. Time will tell! They did offer to send me a replacement unit of the new model when it release, so A+ customer service for the manufacturer. I'll follow up on this review if they follow through.

Amazing
The nightlight affect is so perfect.. especially if you’re someone like me who likes to sleep in the dark, but would like some light with the baby in the room. My baby slept seven hours straight with us on. It even had me missing my alarm clock because it’s so good.
