Absolutely no spoilers!!!!
I love sci-fi series so when I noticed the Survivors series 18 books I had to give it a try. Let me preface this review by saying that I am now ready book ten in the series so you know I like it. I have been reading sci-fi almost exclusively for the past 20 years. I have read some great books and some not so great. I really enjoy all the different ways that writers choose to tell their stories. Some spend all their efforts to go deeply into the nuts and bolts of the technology, this author is not one of those. Most of the tech and gadgets are introduced and used but very barely if at all explained. Then you have authors that spend all their time explaining how and why the characters do what they do. This author is not one of those either. Nathan Hystad is somewhere in the middle of both. He gives you some background about the tech but really lets you fill in the gaps. I find that I'm fine with that because he gives me enough to accept the tech and not be too concerned with the mechanics. Not something that always works for me. If you want really hard science fiction this is probably not the series for you but if you are willing to ride along it just might be a fun ride. I think the way he paints his characters is very similar. I know them, I like them and I want to keep reading about them but there are some aspects of them that I find hard to accept. Again all I can say is that when I get to the end I will probably be very sorry to see them leave me. As I said, I am already reading book 10 of 18 and I am going to keep on reading to the end. I think my time is well spent and I think you may feel the same way if you do the same.

An easy read.
A pleasant read with decent character development and a simple plot. I'm looking forward to continuing the series. I have been a fan of Hystad's work.

Somewhat simplistic story
That this is a new author is fairly obvious. The plot of the story is interesting, and could have been fleshed out into an attention-grabbing beginning of a decent series. However, the writer missed that opportunity. The main characters are introduced, come together with no drama, no conflict, and become fast friends immediately, despite the alien invasion that had abducted every person on earth except those few chosen to save the world. The original 4 survivors join up, compare stories, and set out to save the world. One of those four, a woman described in the author's words as "a member of the US Air Force", is assumed to be a pilot, although in fact pilots are a minority community in the Air Force (and Naval and Marine Corps aviation units, too) as it takes many support personnel to keep each pilot & aircraft flying. She is a pilot, of course, and later in the story she is immediately able to fly an alien craft. They set out to travel from New York to Peru with a stop in Tampa, Florida to pick up a sailboat, sail to Panama, and travel overland to Peru. They encounter few obstacles in their travels, we assume, because the trip is covered with only superficial details; apparently they overcame all hardships without breaking a sweat and made record time getting there. After they reach their destination, they waste no time in going up in alien spacecraft, defeating aliens who outnumber them and are experienced with the craft and weapons, then fly toward the sun to rescue the millions of abducted earthlings. They accomplish their mission by exiting their craft into space, "flying" to "within a couple of miles of the sun" and rescuing most of those people, killing off all those invading aliens. That sun, folks, is HOT; you would never make it (even in a spacesuit) close to 2 miles from the sun without becoming a very "crispy critter". The story is too simplistic; there was never a time the reader had a doubt that the heroes would triumph. On the plus side: the book is well written, with none of the editing and/or grammatical errors so common in many e-books. The plot was a good idea, but the "Alien invasion/Machu Picchu" connection was very well done in the "Breakers" series by E.W. Robertson some years back. And personnel in the US Air Force are NOT soldiers; call them "Airmen" if you must hang a label on them; soldiers serve in the US Army.

I don’t even like alien books, but…
This book was awesome. Well written, fast paced with great characters. I really need to see what happens next, so I’m off to start book 2 !

Light from above
This has all the makings for a great ufo abduction story but on a whole other scale. We’re quickly introduced to Dean who is one four people left on earth. He luckily runs into Ray, Vanessa and Mary. Aside from being the last on earth, they quickly find out that’s not the only coincidence as Mary was at Deans wedding as well as Vanessa. Ray would have been but couldn’t make it but his wife was there. All Dean was told was they were long lost cousins. The second thing they had in common was that each of their spouses left a piece of jewelery that stopped them from being abducted along with details on how to save Earth.

Oh Wow! Another Great Read
What an enjoyable read. Nathan Hystad has another great series going in my estimation. When people are beamed onto spaceships that are positioned around the world, there are but a handful of people who have been left clues in the event something dramatic like this happens. They race half-way around the world to put the pieces together, trusting in one another as strangers need to in these circumstances. The heart was beating quite quickly throughout as I read this exciting book. Can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Fantástico e detalhado demais
A narrativa é bem estruturada, porém peca por um detalhismo exagerado em linhas secundárias da estória. Em alguns trechos o fantástico é demais e viaja na maionese.

End of the world
Enjoyed this book and found the concept of other species living amongst us as very credible! A well paced storey that keeps you hooked to the end. A good read.
