Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this album from the Disco diva. Loleatta Holloway was a Dance music legend. Her amazing vocal talents gained her the reputation as one of the premier vocalists of Soul and Dance music during the 70s and 80s. Holloway started her singing career with Queen of Gospel, Albertina Walker (and her Caravans) before striking out on her own. She released her first single "Rainbow 71 on the fledgling Apache label before moving to Aware to record her first two albums prior to her work with Gold Mind/Salsoul. QUEEN OF THE NIGHT, released in 1978 on Gold Mind/Salsoul Records, was the follow up to her breakthrough LP for the label in 1976, simply titled Loleatta and re-united her with Salsoul stalwart Norman Harris who took on the production duties. With QUEEN OF THE NIGHT being the singers second LP for this Disco dominated label it confirmed her transformation from Southern Soul songstress to Disco royalty.

"There ain't nothin' you can make up but the bed you been sleepin' in!"
That is what Loleatta Holloway tells her cheating man when he asks if he can make it up to her in "Two Sides To Every Story." The wait for this fantastic album to make it onto CD has been a LONG one. I am so glad to hear it again. There is no one quite like Loleatta Holloway. She is incredibly soulful, playful, and professional in her vocal delivery. And what a voice it is! So powerful. I believe no other artist has been "sampled" as much. It is a shame she never recieved proper payment or attention for all the money she has made for others. How could you not love "I May Not Be There When You Want Me (But I'm Right On Time)? What a fun track. One thing that is very special about Loleatta is her tendency to "vamp" in the middle of her songs. This tune is a prime example. Fun dialog comes up as in the example above. She tells the listener that a man is SUPPOSED to wait for his date "I mean do you want me to come down stairs with rollers in my hair? When we go out, I wanna be ALL that you see!" She takes "You Light Up My Life" to a whole other level. It would make the hair on the back of Debbie Boone's neck stand up, run, and hide. If you were ever out dancing in a club in the seventies, chances are very good that you were moving to the fabulous sounds of Loleatta Holloway. Many thanks to whomever was responsible for this LP making it to CD. Treat yourself and buy this CD.3/22/2011 - I just heard this evening that Loleatta passed away. The sound of heaven has changed forever.

The Queen of Salsoul Sensation Exposure
People Don't understand music,Loleatta Holloway put so much energy in her singing, till it makes me upset that she is not known today. I live in Jacksonville Florida, they don't know her or Salsoul music. I discover her through The Salsoul Orchestra song titled "Runaway" in 2005. I started to chase her work though Salsoul and the late great Norman Harris.I'm only 37 years old, I know what real music is,and supposed to feel like. That what this album is. You won't regret it. I't worth every dollar and cents. I just fell in love with Salsoul music period. It's not on the radio at all in Jacksonville florida,I can't get enough Playing Loleatta Holloway's "Catch Me On The Rebound" 10 min. long. DYNAMITE!!!!!! Till That's becoming my phase to everybody "CATCH ME ON THE REBOUND"!!!!!!

"A Salsoul Records legend"
Back in 1978-79 I read in a magazine a review of this recording. That particular magazine baptized Loleatta as "The Big Momma of Disco." The magazine gave Loleatta five stars in their review. Which made me purchase it inmediately."Catch me on the rebound" was a hot hit in the charts. However, there are many other hidden gems worth mentioning. An outstanding and memorable rendition of the then instant classic "You light up my life" and my favorite "I may not be there when you want me (but I'm right on time).""I may not be there..." has two versions included here. I like the original version with the spoken intro, where a male voice asks "What is the name of this song?" Loleatta responds: "Is called I may not be there where you want me, but I'm right on time."The 12" version ends with a jammin' session... the whole thing is priceless.

A great singer. A great voice. A great album.
It's incredible how so many great voices from the 70's ended up (sadly) quite forgotten from the public. Loleatta Holloway is one of those voices who's superior to most divas we hear today. This is the reissue of a 1978 album called QUEEN OF THE NIGHT, when Disco was at the height of its power and Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia reigned supreme among producers. And on top of it all, this was another album mixed by the legendary Tom Moulton.I bought this CD because of Loleatta's tour de force rendition of CATCH ME ON THE REBOUND - a great song impossible not to dance to. On this CD you will find not only the original album version (6m08s), but also the full 12'' mix with 10m47s... and it is stunning! But Loleatta's great voice brings sheer brilliance to all the other songs. MAMA DON'T - PAPA DON'T is another gem full of soul. She pulls any Disco song out of the ordinary.Salsoul Records really made magic with Loleatta. This is one of those albums where everything worked. If you like a great voice, great Disco and you are familiar with names like Vince Montana, Tom Moulton, Salsoul Orchestra and The Philadelphia Sound... get this CD ASAP.This is one of those CDs to treasure.
