Handbook of Technical Writing, Tenth Edition

I used this updating my word choices. Helpful info on words to use before typing in the opinionated voice. How to look up words by alphabetical order. Flip through the book like a dictionary (A - B - C - D) or like an encyclopedia. There are descriptions under every letter and easy to flip through.

This book is an excellent go-to for looking up quick references. Most of the time, I use it to help me with what format to use for what type of document. It is a very helpful, aesthetically pleasing to read, and just an all around helpful reference guide.

I LOVE this book. Originally planned on using and returning, but I decided to keep it just in case. I'm glad I did. As an engineering major, I have referred to this handbook on several occasions already to refresh my memory on formal reports, abstracts, executive summaries and more -- all of which, I now know, are vital to the life of an engineer. The examples provided within for layout and wording are stellar.

It was a good refresher as a reference book. It outlined the grammar and mechanics of writing a technical document and provides checklists as a tool for the reader.Overall the book is helpful introduction though not what I was looking for.

Needed this book for an English class I was taking. Cheap compared to other places (like my school bookstore). I keep this handy for all the papers I have to write in all my other classes. Good reference book when you have to write and present something formal. It's amazing how the quality of your writing helps with your grades, professional work, and personal communication. I would recommend for any college students and any professional needing a good reference book for communication.

This technical writing handbook covers a lot of territory. It's a basic handbook of writing with a slant toward the technical field. In other words, a lot of it you will find in a regular handbook. The layout is well designed and information is easy to find. This is a good book to have on a writer's shelf along with the other writing handbooks. Or maybe you won't need any other writing handbooks, just this one.

It was the book I needed for class. You could definitely tell it was used. Some of the pages had (i think) food stains and hand written notes. It does the job for homework.

This book is my "go to" reference in my job as a writer/editor and program manager. It's essential for business correspondence, technical documents, reference letters, grammar and punctuation, etc. The information is presented clearly and comprehensively in an easily understood format - it's very user-friendly. I bought a copy for my daughter to use in getting through college and she agrees it's an indispensable tool.

I believe many professionals should use this book.I love the alphabetical structure of the book. The lists provide a quick and concise guide to many questions I may have about a certain subject. I use it primarily to ensure the structure and form of what I'm writing is correct. The book is also useful for quick questions about common trouble spots; for example, I was about to type "e.g." but the book recommends "for example" to ensure clarity.

Beim Durchblättern des "Handbook of Technical Writing" von Alred, Brusaw & Oliu (2012, 10. Auflage) stechen zwei Punkte ins Auge:1. Der Gegenstand "Technical Writing" wird sehr breit gefasst: Es finden sich z.B. auch Stichworte (mit Beispieldokumenten) zu Bewerbungsschreiben oder Stellenbeschreibungen.2. Das Handbook ist alphabetisch gegliedert in ca. 400 Stichworte. Es ist also eher als Nachschlagewerk denn als im Zusammenhang lesbarer Text nutzbar. Anmerkungen zu 'ESL' (English as a Second Language), die zahlreichen Beispieldokumente und die einfache und klare Sprache in der das Buch abgefasst ist (ist mit üblichem Schulenglisch gut lesbar) macht es aber für jeden interessant, der öfter mal etwas auf Englisch schreiben muss, sich aber in Fragen von Grammatik und Stil nicht so sicher ist oder es endlich mal genau wissen will.Einen Punkt Abzug, weil das Thema "Technical Writing" insgesamt etwas kurz kommt. Eher ist das Buch eine englische Sprach- und Stillehre mit zahlreichen Beispielen aus allen Geschäftsbereichen.

I love the book. This is really useful and lot of detailed information about processes in technical writing. I love the 'detailed' of it. You will hardly miss anything with the book.
