One of the best values in a Mens budget diver, Casio quality.
The Casio MTD-1079 is a classic budget diver. It is a 100m water resist, so its not a true diver, but for most people - this level is sufficient for swimming, water skiing, average usage. Its too bad the other color options are not readily available on Amazon - gray, silver, I think blue that it used to be available in. The metal band is actually not too bad, I wouldnt bother spending the $50-80 on a higher quality metal band, though it would be that much better on the watch - it defeats the value of this watch at the $50 range. I adjusted my own band with a small screw driver as the only tool - took out 2 links to fit a 7.5 inch wrist with a little movement - which I like in a metal band. This took 15 minutes or less. I say if the watch is not available or is above $60, just add it to your cart, and watch for the availability and price to be right ( recently is dropped all the way to $44 - an absolute steal). Any replacement band will work - Nato, Zulu, leather etc - the size is 22mm. Most of my other Diver style watches have Natos and Zulu bands - so I want to keep the steel bracelet on this watch for a while - it has a decent understated style and fits on this watch....so try resizing the bracelet first before doing anything. The watch is about 44mm wide - about the same size as the Casio MDV-106 - a good size for a masculine watch without being obnoxious - and its a medium thickness watch - not thin, and not inconveniently thick....14mm last I checked. An alternative to this watch is of course the other MTD models - though this is the one - the best style and design. I have the MTD 1080, not bad, just not as cool looking, but there is some detail that is lacking on the 1079 that the 1080 has....such as actual applied indices (hour markers) as opposed to being painted onto the watch face on the 1079. We are dealing with $50 range...so they all work out in the end. If you want to spend just a little less and get a ton of watch, the Casio MDV-106 is the watch to get - no lighting feature, the lume at night is more than decent when charged up with a flashlight before bed, and its 200m water resist - making it usable for light recreational diving from all reports I have read. The MDV-106 is always under $50 on Amazon, closer to $40 typically. Zero risk in buying the MDV-106, it is already a Casio Cult Classic. The Illuminator is a cool feature - not quite as good as Timex Indiglo - but its a good feature to have. Both day and date are represented, making it convenient. The bezel rotates in one direction, 120 clicks, like most divers. The crystal is slightly curved, a mini bonus - the other Casios in this price range have flat crystals from my experience, and I have a few.Why you need the Casio-1079 - its a great travel watch and every day watch. Day/Date, LED Illuminator, 100m water, turning bezel ( keep track of time and second time zone with it if used in that manner), stainless steel ruggedness, and budget price (no harm if it gets broken or stolen really - say vs an Omega or Rolex). The watch can be used casually or dressed up - the style is classic and fits in anywhere - think Rolex Submariner style.I have owned a few luxury price level watches - they are nice and all - but you have to service them at huge costs, you dont want to lose or damage them, and automatic watches just dont keep time reliably in all circumstances - I have broken every mechanical automatic watch I have ever owned - requiring $500+ servicing each time. I personally am done with that world - its just not a great use of funds. Watches like the Casio MTD-1079 hit all the check boxes - looks, time keeping, durability, utility, bang per buck value.....its just a no brainer. I see so many men who dont wear watches - its just looks incomplete. I can't stand watch-less people, yeah yeah, you get your time from your slave device smart phone. Join the human race, wear a decent looking watch. Men, anyone, you need to wear a watch as an adult! Casio, other brands like Timex, there are many options, but a watch like this is great for a collector or used as a daily wearer in a single watch collection.....just get it - you wont regret it. Get into the watch game if you aren't already! Damn! Bugs me....non watch wearing weirdos. This watch coupled with a Timex Weekender Chrono white faced version would make a great 2 watch collection for under $100 for both watches. Great looks and versatility with both - add a few Nato straps into the mix and you have almost any situation covered with a watch. Interview, dating, travel, dinner, weekend trip.Summary of alternatives:Casio MDV-106Casio MTD-1080Casio MTP-4500D - Chrono - I dont have one - but it looks like a good value Casio Chrono ($44)Timex Weekender Chrono 40mm (chrono features, dressier look, Indiglo, under $50 typically) - I suggest the white faced version, makes best use of the Indiglo light.Update 2/15/19Watch still 100% functional - keeps good time, loses less than 1 minute per month on average, better than most any mechanical watch and without having to wind it. I have gotten the watch wet several times, no leaking, havent gone to depth, just average use. The battery that it was shipped with is still in the watch, though when I didnt wear the watch for extended periods, I pull the crown to save some juice....I have used the illuminator lighting on the watch many times....so this is going on 2 years same battery, not bad. Casio doesnt always keep all models around forever, if you are looking at this watch, get it, as its still in the $50-60 range alot of times on Amazon here. I have worn it with Silicon quick release straps - works well, and very convenient to install - Barton makes nice two tone versions of these now....Nato straps always work well, but are so over used now...its almost lame to use them....a nylon/ cloth or even leather strap with a closed metal clasp would be cool....again, the shipped metal band is decent for this price range, just remove links if needed, easy to do yourself with a small tool. To reiterate from my earlier review - if you want just as much quality and dont mind giving up the led illumination - the Casio MDV 106 is the way to go for $40 range, I have that watch as well....its flawless for the price range - I think the best watch you can get in the diver class for under $50, its well documented by many for being as such, and it is just as flexible if not more so for the array of straps you can use....have a Silicon quick release on the MDV 106 right now, pretty much a perfect "one watch" for any man who wants a water resistant to 200m watch (MDV 106).

Probably the best watch you can get for the price
TLDR: If the watch is selling for fewer than $70, buy it. This is probably one of the best watches you can get at the $60-$70 price point in terms of quality and versatility. You will not regret your purchase. This is the quintessential everyday "beater" watch. If I'm not wearing an outfit that demands a dress watch, I'm wearing this one. I've worn it almost every day for the last ten months or so, and it has earned my respect.Pros: - Looks more expensive than it is. People compliment it all the time. Compared to everything else that is good about this watch, this particular point is just the icing on the cake, but it's always nice to hear others admire the watch. - Quartz movement is very accurate. After about ten months of wear, the watch has only drifted about ninety seconds ahead. - Black dial paired with the white-tipped hands and the white indices makes the watch very easy to read at a glance. - Illumination function is very strong. You could use it as a short-range light if you're looking for something in a dark room. Not exaggerating. - Day-date complication. - Unidirectional bezel feels very sturdy. Solid-sounding "clicks" and no wobble whatsoever. Bezel edges are easy to grip. - 24-hour time indicators present on the inner rim. It's a minor thing, but it's a nice touch. - The crown guards actually protect the crown very well. Again, it's a minor thing, but it's nice. - Clasp is sturdy. I've seen some complaints about it, but I've never had an issue. For the record, I put the watch on and take the watch off several times per day. - Center bracelet links are high-polish and end links are brushed. This elevates the watch and makes it look quite a bit nicer than it would otherwise. - Conservative style means that this watch can be worn just about anywhere. It wouldn't be my first choice to wear with a suit, but other than that, it will never look out of place. - 100M water resistance. I often wear it in the rain, while washing dishes, and sometimes while swimming. No problems with any of those. - Casio's excellent quality control. Finish on the stainless steel, including the bracelet, is just about flawless. Bezel numerals line up perfectly with the indices on the dial. Second hand hits every marker dead-on. No misalignment anywhere to be found. - Watch is large but is very comfortable to wear.Cons - On the wrist, the watch feels smaller than you would expect from a 44mm dial diameter, and the bracelet helps balance it out, but it is still a rather large watch with respect to wrist coverage and thickness. Buyers with small wrists beware. - Not easy to find the perfect fit. The bracelet links are large and there are only two micro-adjustment holes. It will still be comfortable, but it may not be to your exact preference. - The bracelet eats arm hair. It's not necessarily uncomfortable, but it's something to which you have to get accustomed for sure. - Clasp does not have a safety latch. Not surprising at this price point, but it's something to consider. Conclusion: This watch doesn't do everything, but it comes close. If you plan on doing any kind of serious diving, buy a Casio Duro. If you want something flashy or if you want a bang-for-your-buck automatic dive watch, by an Invicta. Otherwise, this watch will get the job done.

not very practical but looks great
I love this watch and use it as a going out watch but it has a major flaw in that it is very hard to see the hands and therefore tell the time. The middle of the hands are hollow so you see straight through them and the white tips blend in with the markers on the watch face. It's quite a heavy watch which I like but might turn some people off. Overall I would buy again just because it looks so good. Shame I have to study to work out the time.

Perfecto
Casio nunca falla.
