The Neil Diamond Collection Audio CD – Original recording remastered, November 23, 1999

Despite a more recent resurgence in the quality of his songwriting, Neil Diamond's best output was undoubtedly during the late 1960's to the early 1970's. This is a very well chosen single disk compilation with about the best selection of songs that one could ask for from that time period. The presence of a few live recordings only enhances the appeal here. Of note is the fact that this is a Canadian release as opposed to a similarly titled US release that has a slightly inferior song list in my opinion. I should also mention that the sound quality is superb. Highly recommended.

I remember this soundtrack since I was a child. Then it was completely lost. Finally, I have felt like I bought this album back to where it belongs. Thank you so much! Cheers :)

I gave it 5 stars, again because I like Neil Diamond and was looking for more of his earlier version songs and I just couldn't get enough with the first album I purchased. I like every song in this collection, even though some I don't remember hearing way back when. I would tell anyone who likes his style music and wants to hear his best of's to go ahead and buy this because I don't think you'd be sorry. =))

It's got all the hits I was looking for.

He was very hot when he was younger. It surprised me a little at how old I was getting when I saw the cover art. His older music is as good today as it was when I was young. Great price and it got here quicker than I expected. Thanx

Disk worked great until about 2/3 the way through and then damaged, and could not play further.

My daughter loves this album, but sadly- Sweet Caroline was not on this one as we thought when searching for the album lineup. Still, she enjoys this on her new record player.

Greatsongs but some of the arrangements don't get the most out of them.

Fantastic album containing many of the multi-talented Neil Diamond's well-known hits. Such a fabulous singer, songwriter and musician. A must for any fan. I am delighted with my purchase and would buy again.

つくづく単純でキャッチーで明るいメロディを書くのがうまいひとだな、と思います。この辺の明るさが日本受けしない理由かな、とも。あと詞がやや陳腐なのと、声に色気がなさすぎる(笑)のが致命的な欠点です。でもアメリカでは熟年女性に異常なくらい人気あるんですよ。ホントに。ライブの興行収入がいまだにモノスゴイのです。Bang→Uni→Columbiaと所属レーベルを変えたNeil Diamondですが、ソングライターとしての全盛期はBang (現Columbia) とUni (現MCA) 時代と言われます。ただ、権利関係でこの両レーベルのオリジナル録音をおさめた良いベスト盤がなかなかないので、Bang時代のヒットをおさめた「Classics: The Early Years」と、Uni時代の「The Neil Diamond Collection」の2枚のCDを買えば、彼の一番おいしいところを聴くことができます（どちらかだけでは片手落ち！）。どちらから買ってもいいと思います。知っている曲が多く入っている方から聴くのがよいでしょう。主にMonkeesなどへの楽曲提供で知られていた初期Bang時代は全体におとなしめですが良質のアォーク・ポップで駄曲がなく、"Sweet Caroline"や"Song Sung Blue"などの大ヒットでスターダムにのりあげたUni時代はやや演出過剰気味ですが何と言っても"Sweet Caroline"が入ってます(笑)。ほかに、コアなファンにしかお薦めできませんが、"You Don't Bring Me Flowers"などのColumbia時代の曲も含めて全部一度に揃えたいという向きには、Bang, Uni, Columbia全時代にわたる「In My Lifetime」という3枚組ボックスもありますので、そちらもご検討を。

ケネディが駐日大使になり、スイートキャロラインを聞くために購入しました。懐かしい曲も多く、満足。
