Great starter kit to get in to DE shaving!
I'd been fed up with overly-expensive cartridge razors which seem to clog up with hair far too easily - my fairly wiry stubble seems to block the gap in between the blades far too well - especially with the "add more blades" marketing tricks from Gilette & co. I've used various Gilette razors (Sensor, Sensor Excel, Mach 3 etc) and a few others, and found much the same problems with them all; my favourite ended up being the Wilkinson Sword Quattro, but that still suffered the same issues.I decided to give traditional double-edge razors a go, and I'm so glad I did. This is a great little starter kit, providing all you need to get into double-edge razor shaving. The brush, whilst not a high-end badger hair brush, is more than adequate, and does a good job working up a lather from the Arko shaving soap. The soap is excellent - it has a pleasant fragrance, works up to a decent thick lather easily, and lasts ages - I've had probably 25 shaves from mine so far and haven't even used a quarter of it.The butterfly razor works just fine - undo the bottom of the handle, causing the butterfly flaps to open, place a blade in, tighten to close the flaps, and away you go. The razor isn't particularly aggressive - I was a little worried I'd cut up my face but my first shave went just fine without a single nick! One tip is that if you tighten the razor a lot, it's less aggressive than if you don't tighten it as much - so if you're struggling to get a close shave, don't tighten it so much, but be careful.Blade-wise, the supplied Derby blades are OK, but I'd suggest trying other brands (ideally, buy a sampler pack that includes a few of several brands) as different people seem to get on better with different brands. Personally, I tried the included Derby blades, Feather (very sharp), Shark, and Wilkinson Sword - the last of which I got on best with, and they're cheap and easy to get hold of. I save a fortune buying those rather than over-priced cartidges - this kit will soon pay for itself! Finally, the alum block is great for treating your skin after shaving - if you did nick yourself at all, its styptic action will stop the bleeding quickly!I'd strongly recommend finishing off your shave with Arko After Shave Balm ICE MINT - I found that it leaves my skin feeling really smooth, with a cold icy feeling that's really refreshing and lasts a good while. All in all, I used to find shaving an unpleasant chore; after getting in to double-edge razor shaving, I find it more pleasurable, and almost enjoy a decent shave now! What a great introduction to Double Edge shaving.
I used this kit as an introduction to DE. After a few weeks I'm really pleased with my purchase, even though the kit with lots of razor blades for just a little more money is probably even better value. All the components seem excellent to this beginner and have given me no negative issues at all. It's easy to wet the face and rub on some soap directly with the stick. I like the scent of the soap. The brush has no smell that I've noticed and it is easy to lather up the soap directly on my face. The razor is good quality and very safe. I was worried about cutting myself but I haven't managed it. I do have to make several passes and it does take me a long time to shave but I do eventually get it smooth. Maybe I'll try a "more aggressive razor" after some research or maybe I'll just get better at it, time will tell. The aloe block is the icing on the cake and very nice to use to finish off.For only £15 it's well worth a try. Hello to effective and economical shaving.

Great DE razor for the price
Ive been using normal disposible razors for years and wanted to change as it was giving me bumps, rashes and the hair grew quicker after afew days. Bought this de razor to practice using a de razor and because of the price too. While researching on the web i read alot of good reviews about this razor. Its not agressive which makes it easy to use if your a first timer de shaver and cuts real close to the skin giving it a smooth finish. Good value for money and comes with akro shaving stick and alun soap too. I recomend it for anybody that wants to get into de razor shaving. Once i get used to it and learn more on the shaving technics ill invest in a more agressive/expensive de razor to use,but for now ill keep to this.Nimal

Took a punt, it was totally worth it!
I had always used multi-bladed monstrosities and electric nuisances, which irritated my skin and cut me. Now I'm just cutting myself a little bit!I'll be honest, I'm not the best at shaving, but for the first time in my life I'm actually enjoying it. Preparing a lather, taking my time doing multiple passes, trying out different brands of blades to see what works for me and this razor. It's a new thing to get excited about. If, like me, you're interested in giving double edge shaving a go, I'd heartily recommend this kit. It has everything you need for the first few shaves and the soap and alum block should last for ages!

... if you want to break free of the mass-produced crappy quality quadruple razor gilded plastic handles and start shaving ...
Start here if you want to break free of the mass-produced crappy quality quadruple razor gilded plastic handles and start shaving like a real man. This kit might not be the best of the best, but it's something to work with and start out on and its a hell of a lot better than any other types of mass produced razor's you'll find on the supermarket shelves. Your grandfathers generation knew what they were doing when they shaved with this and how or why this has been overshadowed with lesser quality razors is beyond me, im in my 20's and i think I've found a shaving companion for life never will i go back as this type of shaving among others (cut-throat razors) was recommended to me by the older generation and how right they were. Get yourself a kit, you'll not regret it.
