I really like my new Ecuador hat. But it's more fun and descriptive to say 'Jipijapa' so that's what it's going to be. Based on what I've seen and heard this is a pretty nice price point for a genuine Montecristi hand woven hat. It is made of Toquilla grass- first woven outward to the edge of the brim and then back upon itself. It's a very fine and careful weave.The fit is adequate for me at 4XL- a size 63.Treat yourself to one of these hats. It is a nice change-up from ballcaps in summer. The light weight is, of course, meant for warm climates- perfect for the deep south. The hat is very light on my head. The width if the brim is sufficiently wide to protect one from the sun but not so wide as to constantly be bumping or brushing against say, a headrest in the car.I suggest seeking out some care videos online. The hat isn't high maintenance at all, but there are some best practices for proper handling and cleaning that are important to know if you want the hat to look good for a long time. And you should treat it well. The time and craftsmanship that go into these hats are significant and interesting to learn about.

5 stars for the hat, NO STARS for Amazon packing. Hat is very well made. Very good quality for the price. If your not familiar with this type of material it is thin and lightweight. 62 fits my very large 61 mellon. You might want to consider a slightly larger size and add a foam hat insert to insure it is not to small and therfore unwearable. Very nice style with what I think is the perfect width brim. Any bigger it starts to look like a gardening hat. AMAZON... THE HAT ARRIVED IN A BOX THAT WAS NOT BIG ENOUGH... NOR HAD ENOUGH PACKAING TO PROTECT DURING SHIPMENT. THE CROWN OF THE HAT WAS PUSHED IN. LUCKILY IT WAS REPAIRABLE AND DID NOT LEAVE PERMENANT DAMAGE. GET YOUR ACTO TOGETHER ON DELACATE ITEMS!!!

I want my hat brim to have a slight dip in the front and no curl or curves on the sides. I'm looking for instructions to flatten the curvy brim.

I did not read any specs on this hat. If I had, I would have ordered someone else's Panama Hat. I prefer a brim no more than 2.5" and this one is much wider. Feels like my straw cowboy hat instead of a fedora. Also the straw is very, very light which makes it cool, I suppose but un-shapeable. I almost sent it back but it's not the seller's fault. I should have shopped more carefully.

I like straw panama hats. Normally wear a Scala or Stetson. I am accustomed to getting my hats in a hat box. This hat came smooched nearly flat in an envelope. At first disappointed by creases, but amazingly the thing reformed. Has some minor defects, but it is $100 hat. If that is a problem, try a $1000-$5000 hat. It is what it is--A very attractive inexpensive hat. I will smooch it again for travel. Why not?Update: Just took this hat to the Caribbean. Still very pleased with this purchase. This is the best hat I ever owned. This is Ecuadorian craftsmanship. It is a fine hat for the cost.

I was looking for a well-made Toquilla Panama hat from Montechristi, Equador and this hat is exactly what I hoped for. Measured fit with a string and ruler and it is a perfect and very comfortable fit. The feel of the material and color are exactly as anticipated. The hat was delivered one day early and even came with a tiny Panama hat key chain as a bonus. I read references to the hat shopping flat but that was not the case. It came well packaged in a box with a donut that fit the dome just right. Wearable right out of the box. Very pleased with this purchase!

The hat does not look original!Doesn't have a label from the maker or company. Also I did not like the way you packaged the hat. It came very smashed!!! You should be more careful on that. I rather pay for a good and safe box to make sure will be in a good conditions when I get it. Will see after some days how the hat goes. Won't by a hat again!!
