Bigger than it looks in the picture
My five-year-old is a Thomas the Tank Engine nut, and he'd been wanting a new turntable for a while. He had a small one from one of the generic train sets like this (Wooden Turntable) that turned only somewhat well, and wasn't very big. Of special note was that Gordon wouldn't fit on it. How can you act out "Off the Rails" with a turntable that Gordon won't fit on?So we ordered this one, hoping it was bigger. In the picture it doesn't look all that big.It turns out to be HUGE. Gordon *and his tender* fit completely on the middle piece. As others have noted, it's mostly plastic, which isn't a big deal to us; probably makes it sturdier than if it were one big thin piece of wood. Also, note the little gray knob on the front (it's hard to see in the picture). It's attached to a little gear that fits in notches in the gray turntable piece, so you can turn the turntable with the knob. Our son loves it, and is off in his room setting it up now.

More Plastic and More Expensive
First of all, I can't believe I had to buy this separately after spending almost $[...] on the Roundhouse. Gosh, can they milk consumers even more? Why not just include this as part of Roundhouse and charge a bit more? Ridiculous. Once you buy the roundhouse, I guarantee your kid(s) will ask for this. And this thing is not cheap. It's a very nifty product, give that, but very overpriced. But your kids want it for the collection, so we buy it. It works well and it's cool. However, similar to reviews below, this piece is largely plastic. Given that plastic works better for the turning mechanism, I believe this shows how this toy maker, HIT Entertainment, is moving from wood to plastic, probably to cut costs after that pathetic lead paint incident. More and more of Thomas the train toys are being made in plastic but prices still going up. Ridunkulous and Outrageous! What's next? Paper trains? For product specification review, please read below review... "The only wooden part to it is in the center where the rails are. The attachment pieces (on the red part) are plastic, as is the grey-colored siding that guides the engines into the Roundhouse. ALSO, the wooden piece, for whatever reason, is not glued down to the red plastic piece and falls out very easily. Not a big deal when it's set up and attached to the Roundhouse, but still annoying. The grey-colored siding also snaps in and out which also is annoying. My son takes off the siding and then yells that it's broken. It snaps back into place easily, but I don't understand why it comes off at all. While the red plastic part is sturdy, the grey pieces are a bit more flimsy, and I could see them breaking in the future if they continue to be snapped in and out of place by little toddler hands."

A little cheap
My son loves all things Thomas and has almost every train he could ask for so he's been asking for track pieces lately. When I ordered this, I expected just the grey pieces to be plastic, but the red is as well. Also, the wood turntable isn't attached to the red at all, so it constantly comes apart when moving it around. Still works fine, just wished those 2 things were different.

Now playing: Diesel 10's triumphant revolutions!
My 3 year old son loves Day of the Diesels, the newest Thomas the Tank Engine movie. In it, Diesel 10 is a very naughty engine who manipulates Percy into helping the diesels take over the Steam Works. Once all the diesels get inside the empty Steam Works, they ride on the cranes and lifts...and their leader, Diesel 10, gets on a turntable and turns and turns and turns, laughing maniacally. Well, this scenario is now played out in my sunroom every day. He loves it!We already had the less expensive version of the roundtable which doesn't have a turntable (the Deluxe version comes with this turntable Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Deluxe Roundhouse). When we'd go to the local toy store, they had a turntable there and my son would play with it endlessly (isn't it fun trying to drag your children away from those?). So this was a must for Christmas. It is mostly plastic, snaps easily into the roundhouse, and has smooth rotation. My son usually drives an engine onto it and turns it round using the gray sidings, but also uses the little knob that turns it round as well.

Replacement Piece
We picked up a Thomas Table from the local Barnes & Noble with two pieces need to be replaced, the roundabout being one of them. The actually pieced i needed was the center that spins. I initially wanted to do a one for one swap but due to the construction and layout of the table, such and endeavor was not going to happen. Thank goodness the only part needed replaced was the middle.

Another Gift
This item was also a gift for my nephew. His birthday is just before Christmas and if you don't get him something superhero he wants Thomas. He had the roundabout, but didn't have the turntable. He loves it!

My four year old grandson was disappointed. Not sure what to do
The product itself was O.K. but not for $54.00.The turn table did not fit into the Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway Round House. The stubs did not synchronize with the holes in the round house shed.My four year old grandson was disappointed. Not sure what to do???

Great addition to train table
Glad to have this to go with our roundhouse. It also adds a lot of possibilities to our table layouts. Our two year old is just starting to grasp turning the knob and lining up the tracks to make it work. An older child would have no problem.
