I have a 15 lb Scotish Terrier. I needed something to keep her off my love seat. I placed it in front of the love seat and turned it on. All lights came on so I know it was on and working properly. However, she can walk all over it and stand on it forever and it NEVER delivers a shock. THE REASON: The electrical shock wires are so far appart (I measured 1 1/2 INCH BETWEEN THE WIRES) that her small feet NEVER touch two wire at a time, which is required to deliver a shock. The only way this mat will work is if a dog's feet are about 2 inches across (huge dog), and even then, the dog would have to step perfectly on the mat to touch two wires at the time. This things needs to go back to the brawing board.

Worked great to keep dogs from getting on couch. Did not have the same effectiveness when I placed it on the floor in front of the stairs. I have we hoping it would work like an invisible dog gate but the dogs walked on it without hesitation. I stepped on it while carrying laundry and also did not realize it was on. If I was rating for that application I would have to give 2 stars but that’s not the intended primary use so as a deterrent to dogs wanting to get on the couch I give 4 stars only losing the 5th star because it wasn’t able To be used effectively in other areas.

I bought 2 of these and they arrived today. I put brand new energizer lithium batteries in both. Both would turn on as described in the included instructions. On high setting, the shock was hardly noticeable. The reason I'm returning them both is that once they shock one time, they turn off and have to manually be turned on again. Both mats completely turn off after shocking one time. I tried different batteries and got the same results. I'm returning both tomorrow.

Let's face it, these mats don't always work. Some animals seem to magically avoid the wires and the shock. This mat works for my cat. She knows what it is and stays away from it.This mat replaces a different style of mat. The wire in that mat started coming loose and became a tripping hazard. I prefer this mat for a number of reasons. First off, the previous mat seemed to turn itself on at random times after I had turned it off. That meant that the 9v battery drained relatively quickly. This mat has never done that. Second, the warning sound of this mat is less irritating than the other style. It makes a noise which is sufficient to warn you off. (I shocked myself a few times to make sure it worked and that it wasn't too uncomfortable.) Third, it seems better quality. Finally, this one rolls up nicely for storage.As another reviewer mentioned, the wires are spaced too far apart on this mat and I agree. However, the spacing is about the same as on my previous mat. I wish some manufacturer would get this right and space them closely so they were a bit more reliable.

This doesn't seem to work on all surfaces, especially carpet. Better on hardwood floors. Sort of on a sofa. I will keep it for situations that may come up, my cats are only 5 months old right now. They have gotten a small buzz from it, so they are a little wary of the mat itself. But they get over that hesitation quickly. It should be fine for something like kitchen counters.I'm disappointed in it, naturally.

It's working very well! We have a very stubborn and needy kitty. Lately, he's been meowing and banging the door loudly at night when we're asleep. Ever since we put the mat outside our door, it only took one night for him to learn to stay away from our door at night. The mat is transparent, not white as shown on the pictures. I recommend this product!

I was kinda tired of yelling "GET OFF THE COUCH!!" every 20 minutes. We LOVE our couch, so did Reilly. Now he got shocked once and won't go near it... This item literally saved my couch!

Uses AA batteries. There is a sound alert in addition to "shock". Helps with training your dog to stop before stepping on mat. Just added this type mat to our motorhome for travel. Will be replacing our old type mats at home in the near future. And shock mats are much better than lots of "gates" in the home.
