Enriching, quick read
This short book and easily be read in an evening after bedtime or broken up over a few days. It has an excellent message with application tips and examples. My spouse and I read together, were inspired by it, and found it easy to implement in our daily routines.

Concise
So much to say on this topic, yet this is a nice, cleaned up and to point read through on worship in the family. We have given out 40+ of these in our church and recommend them to every believer.

Life changing
This little book, which can be read in a day, changed our families view. We had been feeling a pull to dive deeper as a family, while our children were still young and at home. These writings and collected ideas showed us that this is a concept that is echoed in the hearts of many and tangible. It will inspire families to transform the church starting with the ministry right in front of them. And to add, if you’re feeling awkward or inadequate as a leader in your home, or just don’t know where to start, this book has just the right encouragement!

Simple and encouraging
Whitney gives a biblical and a historical background for family worship. He then gives a simple and brief description of how to implement it in your home. Whitney also acknowledges different family dynamics of single parents and singles preparing for marriage. This book is short but encouraging to anyone who is wanting to start family worship in their home.

A Good Introduction to Family Worship
I was surprised at how small the book is when I received it. You could easily read it in one sitting. Though it’s small it helps address a much needed time for all Christian families. It is sad to realize that this was an expectation of every Christian family but we have neglected it.If following Christ is number one in our life, and it should be, we must show it by our priorities. We cannot throw our kids off onto “professionals” when God’s Word is so clear about the duties parents have to disciple them. Family Worship is vital in the discipleship of ourselves and our children. I’ve seen God transform my family through family worship and I pray that every christian family will push out the things (even good) that encroach on our time together in God’s Word as families.Richard Baxter, writing to pastors, said, “Get masters of families to do their duty, and they will not only spare you a great deal of labor but will much further the success of your labours.” The Scottish Reformers created “The Directory for Public Worship” that you can find online that gives great instruction to parents, especially fathers. In the end, family worship is pretty simple: Read, Sing, Pray. Consistency is key. The results that God brings: AMAZING!Another good book on the topic is A Neglected Grace: Family Worship in the Christian Home

Little book, big message
Wow the author really has family worship in reality. No bones about it, its sound doctrine he does emphasize men are to lead the family in worship but he does seem to allow women to lead in selective cases single mother, husband is unbeliever, etc but he is strict to encourage men to step up. Which as a woman think is right though I am the theologian in the family. He puts examples as scripture first and church history, although I am disappointed he left out a great portion of the church history going from 2nd century straight to the reformation with examples. Then includes his own clearing any false expectations we may have about family worship From fidgeting toddlers to bored teens to distractions to the family pet getting sick he allows us to know life happens in the midst of worship but that the worship still impacts the life and lives of our the family in cumulative ways.

Helpful intro to a neglected practice
This short book by Whitney is like many of his books - tremendously helpful and practical. He does not leave the reader pondering mere platitudes, but provides concrete steps to start family worship no matter what the particular circumstances of the reader are.

Practically helpful, not weighty.
I like this book - it gets to the point well without extra, unnecessary reading. The real life examples & quotes provide a much needed, raw view of what an average (young, mixed, older, many or few children) family might expect to see throughout family worship times. The only point I don't agree with is that the author states (paraphrasing), 'communion should not be taken in the family home but only in the wider church gathering.' I don't personally see a biblical ground for this & feel that we are all still "church" regardless of group size or blood relationship - especially true in this global pandemic lockdown where large church gatherings are on hold. Where Jesus said, "... Do this often in remembrance of me..." I would certainly encourage home communion - from our own experience as a family, I have noted my children's keenness & enthusiasm for joining in with communion & being given air time to thank Jesus for His body & blood. That's my only real gripe.Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you as you read through this & move towards strengthening your family in their daily life worship.
