John Deere Select Series Electric Spreader - LP35439

This will install much easier and be more stable than my old generic spreader. It also holds more than the old one and will make it much easier to treat for tics next season. Will also be useful for spreading grass seed.

Nice unit, a bit hard to put on the tractor. Which is had a better way to hide the power cord on the side and also a easier way of flipping the lever to turn it on as driving. holds a good amount of product. good power and sturdy. Better to just leave it on once you get it mounted. but needing a handle to turn it on and off easier in that you always do it on turns and your always reaching behind you to turn the power off and on or closing the lever. added on, motor died in less then a year with minimal use.

Update:While it works great for spreading sale, I recently used this spreader to spread weed-n-feed on my lawn. As volume is concerned, the numbers on the spreader dial pretty much correspond with the Scott's rotary spreader I have. The weed-n-feed called for 3 1/2 on the Scott's spreader and 3 1/2 on the JD spreader delivered pretty much the same amount of material. I only have about an acre of lawn, but parts are very steep. This spreader made life so much easier for routine spreading of fertilizer.Original review:After having to replace tow-behind spreaders every couple of years (I use them to spread salt), I thought I'd invest in a genuine JD product. It's expensive, but like everything else JD makes, it's well engineered and solid. The control lever is positioned perfectly and having the on/off switch mounted to it is convenient. I only have 2 minor complaints. First is it would be nice if it was designed in such a way that the wiring is hidden somehow. Second, while I realize that the primary intended use is for spreading seed and therefore on the smaller machines they require front wheel weights, if you're spreading salt and plowing (like I do) then you need somewhere to mount the suitcase weights on the rear. The weight of the plow on the front serves as enough ballast to prevent me from doing wheelies with my X380. With the spreader mounted, you can't mount the suitcase weights. In a pinch, I tossed the weights in the spreader which is not ideal and will surely damage the spreader over time. I'm going to have to rig something up to mount the weights properly. Last, this is listed as a "125 lbs" spreader, but a 50 lbs bag of ice melt nearly filled the hopper. I could probably get another 25 lbs in it, but that's about it. Ordered on Wednesday, delivered on Friday. John Deere Dealer could not order one but these guys had one in stock. Very impressed. Only suggestion is to include shipping. Otherwise Just Perfect. Will have John Deere Dealer Install.
