Gardner's Art Through the Ages

I expected a good Art book. What I got was a 10 pound encyclopedia of everything in art from the first handprint. Not only is the breadth of material incredible, but the details are all there as well. Want a quick check on something from the impressionists? It will take you a good while to cover that hundred pages! The entire western renaissance is probably 200 pages deep.Hardily recommend. Hamburger is 5X the price of this masterpiece.

I'm a retired art history teacher, and this is the go -to reference book for those in all areas of art careers, for reminding, reinforcing, and simply taking a 1200 page book down memory lane. I recommend it to anyone who might have the slightest interest of art and it's history. You can make it a year - long reading project, or use I t as a quick reference guide, and it's information that is the established Truth. Every library should have this.

Best art history book I've ever read. Wonderful writing, warm and expressive, conveys the author's intelligence and knowledge but also his love for the subject.

Comprehensive over view!

I had this text in college and lost it during a flood on the East Coast a few years ago. It has been my bible for reference to art history. I always want to have one around and am so grateful I found it at a variety of prices to fit my budget!
