Better than the basic power strip
I needed to get a basic five or six outlet power strip and instead ended up with this Belkin 6-Outlet Home/Office Surge Protector . Since the power strip that I was going to get was for basic protection, and would be plugged into a surge suppressor anyway, I really wasn't concerned about how much protection it offered. Just having the extra outlets for additional small-to-medium electrical devices was important. While looking and comparing this with basic power strips, I decided to check the manufacturer's site to see what specs they offered, since the ones here seemed to be a bit inadequate. Here's what I found:* 555 Joule energy rating provides maximum protection of all your sensitive electronic devices* 6 Surge-protected outlets supply 2-line AC protection* 2.5-foot power cord delivers optimal, safe AC power through a 14-gauge heavy-duty cord* Filters EMI/RFI noise up to 43 dB reduction* Maximum Spike Amperage of 36,000 Amps* Lifetime Product Warranty* $15,000 Connected Equipment WarrantyThe pros on this unit include the price, the basic surge protection, a short but sturdy power cord, and good basic construction. It has a power/reset switch that's recessed at the top of the unit near the power cord to prevent accidental shutting down. On the negative side, like so many of these units, the outlets are too close together to put more than a couple transformer-type devices like cell phone chargers and such.Just a couple of comments on the specifications listed above to those who may be interested: if you're going to plug high-end expensive electronics into one of these, don't do it. This is an adequate but very basic unit, and you want to consider getting a better grade surge suppressor for large screen televisions, good computer systems and such. No surge protector is 100% effective, but sure that the product is listed as a transient voltage surge suppressor, and that it meets the criteria for UL 1449, the absolute minimum performance standard for surge suppressors. I'm no electrical engineer or electronics technician, but if you're going to protect an expensive jogging machine, your new 52-inch television or Apple iMac 27-inch desktop system, you need better than an under $10 surge suppressor or power strip.A friend who I will refer to as the 'cranky electronic tech' told me to look it up on the 'Net, but make sure that whatever I got for protection of "really good stuff" needed to be minimally have a UL1449 3rd Edition certification and be rated at 1400 joules of surge protection or higher, and the rest would fall into place. The Tripp Lite ISOBAR4ULTRA Isobar Ultra 4-Outlet Surge Protector that I've used for years with my large electronics is rated at 3330 Joules, and meets those specs. If you plan to use a basic surge suppressor to charge cell phones and the like with their transformer plugs, units with right-angle outlets are a better, though more costly choice. My personal choice for mid-range protection combined with outstanding quality is the Leviton S1000-PS Office Grade Surge Strip with Six Outlets , a 5-star product that I own and have reviewed here. I run two notebook computers with this, along with a few chargers. There are others if you look.If all that you're looking for is a basic surge protector with a reasonable amount of surge suppression, then this one from Belkin is a decent choice, and certainly better than the basic power strip. I actually came back recently and bought a second one this year. But if your needs call for more, then the above listed alternates may be worth a look.4/25/2012

Pretty good considering the price
Used this mainly as an extender than a surge protector. If you are thinking of getting this for surge protection for heavy power-consuming devices, would recommend spending a little more and buying something else.Like the form factor of the extender, but feel like it could have been designed better. Even though it has 6 outlets, I won't be able to use all of them, since the way they are arranged leaves very little space for an adapter to be plugged in between two 3 pin adapters. If you have something that has a big adapter, like a macbook charger, you'll end up blocking some of the other outlets; can't even turn it towards the ends since they are raised. I feel if the product was designed better, the outlets could have been positioned so that adapters would stick out the sides (turn the outlets 90 degrees). The on\off switch is not noticeable at first view, its on the side at the end. At this price though (less than $10), can't really complain much. It does what I intended it to do pretty well, gave me more sockets to plug in my devices, and the 4ft cable is long enough for me to tuck it discreetly behind my desk. The minimal surge protection is just a small bonus for me

A basic 6 outlet surge suppressor.
I lack any way to scientifically test the surge suppressing aspect of these surge suppressors. For that reason, I'm just going to speak to their features as a power strip. The construction seems sturdy. The housing is all plastic, but seems well constructed. The cord could be longer at 4 feet, but it is sufficiently heavy gauge for its purpose. There's a power button that also resets the circuit breaker. It is UL listed.

Always keep a few handy
These surge outlets get the job done. For the value you really can’t go wrong and at this price point it’s always a good idea to have a spare because if there’s one thing I’ve learnt you can never have too many outlets!

Shorter life than expected
I bought two of these 16 months ago. One died after a year, the other is still working. I am not deducting any stars for the lack of a light or that the outlets are placed so that a three prong cord or a brick style USB adapter takes two slots since that could be seen on the photo when I bought it. I got what I paid for at the time on the one that is still working. Prices have since come down so the replacement I’m ordering has 8 widely spaced slots plus three USB slots and an on light at a lower price. It only comes with a six foot cord but I’m unwilling to pay more just to get a shorter cord.

Protects against Louisiana Lightnin'
I've had this for about six years, and it has come with me to about that many homes, and it's been perfect. I live in Southern Louisiana so there are actually a lot of... "Surges" to "protect" from (even though people might just use this as an outlet multiplier in other more temperate locations) and it has done me well! I know people who have had their entire computer harddrives zapped and lost from having their computers plugged directly into the wall during a thunder storm, and this has always protected my computer and phone. I also have power surges in my home all the time, and my technology has been safe. I love how many outlets it has too, of course. It has has a decent sized cord so while not a real extension cord it's definitely helped me get that extra bit further while trying to plug something in at a non convenient to outlet location. I also love how it has an on /off switch. It gives me peace of mind to know that I am a) not paying for electricity I'm not using and b) that there is no chance of an electrical fire when I leave the house.Would definitely recommend!

DO NOT BUY Burnt plastic smell
I brought three of these surge protector outlets and one of them had only a laptop and monitor on. within less than 2 minutes, I notice some burnt plastic smell and immediately realize the outlet is very hot and something melted inside. This is definitely not right, and I have my concern about it protecting my electronics. Since the other two are fine, I think this one is faulty but the failure rate is too high and risky for your electronics.

Wrong clamping voltage, useless and waste my time. It's NOT 330V clamping voltage.
It took me few hours so search "correct" surge protector with clamping voltage of 400V or less. I chose "Belkin BE106000-06-CM Commercial Surge Protector" because there is 330V clamping voltage in the Specification Sheet in the "Product guides and documents". However IT IS WRONG. It is 500V clamping voltage in the back of the power strip. PLEASE CORRECT YOUR SPECIFICATION SHEET to not waste clients' time.Update 13 Oct 2022: Chris from Belkin Support sent me an email "330V is the old UL standard. Now the UL Standard requires a 400v to 500v and all of our current surge protectors meet that new requirement." It is not the main issue here. SPECIFICATION SHEET in both Belkin website and Amazon website provided wrong data.

Not the same as before
I have older model Belkin power bars that are excellent and still going strong so I went to buy the trusted brand I know. The reviews had me worried because people were saying every once in a while these things cause burning around the plug. But what else am I to do? Well so far it hasn’t started a fire yet but it kind of smells of plastic and the build quality seems very cheap now. Seems like you just can’t get quality anymore these days without spending enormous dollars.I’ll report back to my house burns down

Basic and does the job
Nothing fancy about it. Just your plain old powerbar with surge protection. Wish it came with a pilot light so you know at a glance if its on or not but that's the only thing i would upgrade. Belkin has always been a reliable brand for me with many variations of their products.

Seems good quality and cheap to boot.
The product is fine if it suppresses surges as advertised. The only thing that I didn't like was the plugs. They should have been angled plugs so as not to stick out from the wall receptacle. Other than that, I am trusting that they will suppress surges as they come along, thunder storms forecast this afternoon.
