The Love I Lost
A comprehensive collection of Seventh Avenue's club hits (all non-charting in the UK), kicking off songs from the group's first incarnation in the late 1970s. The CD has all the tracks of their concept debut album, but in the wrong order - you can re-order these yourself! Miami Heatwave is the best known of the early tracks, and great it is too! The "concept" is of two gay lovers in New York, who separate to different American cities - Miami, Chicago, and come back together in LA. Sweet. The singing is variable, but the enthusiasum and catchy melodies over the high-energy beat in infectious. The same quality is even stronger in the group's second line-up, who became known later as Big Fun. Big Fun had charting hits with "Blame it on the Boogie" and "Can't Shake the Feeling" - not included here because this compilation concentrates on their Ian Levine written and produced work. Big Fun were produced by Stock Aitken and Waterman. The 80s songs are better sung and more poppy that earlier. Their high energy version of "The Love I Lost" is outstanding, and I also enjoy their other songs here - "Love's Gone Mad", "Ending Up On A High" and "Armed Robbery".The highly prolific Levine went onto produce charting songs on boyband Take That's debut album (I Found Heaven, It Only Takes A Minute, Could It Be Magic, A Million Love Songs), and his next boyband project Bad Boys Inc who scored a top ten hit with "More Than This World". Equally enjoyable is his work with divas Miquel Brown, Evelyn Thomas, Earlene Bentley and Barbara Pennington, all of which have their own "Best Of" in this series.
