Holbein Artist's Watercolors Set of 24 5ml Tubes W405

Product arrived in great condition and on time. When I opened each tube, no problems with paint shooting out of the tube during the initial time that they were opened which is a plus. I've included photos for those newcomers to water color tubes for them to see the size of each tube. Each tube can fill 2 half size pans with a little extra paint to spare OR 1 full size pan with a little extra to spare. To fill your pans, start in at the bottom in a corner and go around several times making sure not to overfill since you'll need a little space for when you wet each pan. To make sure the air pockets are out, I use a straight pin like dressmakers use to go around the edges and then stir the paint in the center. The colors are beautiful and the purchase price for artist quality paints worked for me. My only negatives are that I wished there was a cadmium orange, dioxazine purple, alizarin crimson and a payne's grey in the set. I guess that's where mixing comes into play.UPDATE (28Feb2018): I agree with the reviewers that say there are too many 'mixed pigments'. Why is this a concern for you beginners? When you mix single pigment paints, their mixture will still turn out vivid and clean. When you are trying to mix 2 or more colors together with multiple pigments, they could actually turn out to look like mud.There are 12 single pigment colors:Rose Madder, Yellow Ochre, Viridian Hue, Compose Blue, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Deep, Prussian Blue, Light Red, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Ivory Black (this is the only color that is not vegan) and Chinese White.The following have 2 pigment colors:Permanent Yellow Lemon, Permanent Yellow Deep, Terre Verte and Cobalt Blue.The following contain 3 pigment colors:Crimson Lake, Vermilion Hue, Jaune Brilliant 2, Yellow Grey, Cobalt Green, Permanent Green 1, Permanent Green 2 and Mineral VioletI still give this set 5 stars since the paint colors are beautiful and for those beginners who do not care about mixing colors and solely want the colors 'as is'. However, if you are a beginner and wish to create your own color wheel, try a smaller set (to offset the cost) of a more expensive brand (ie. Winsor & Newton, Sennieier, or even Daniel Smith.For me personally, I purchased additional colors that were not included in this set (naples yellow, leaf green, brilliant orange, sepia and alizarin crimson) that I wish were included and prefer to use. Once I get low with the colors in this set, I plan on switching over to probably Daniel Smith or Winsor & Newton since they have a lot of single pigmented colors.

Came on time and well packaged ! :) I'm very highly pleased with my buy . Price is fair . I'm not a expert in paint , so this is my first buy of quality paint and it rocks ! Paint tubes are small , compared to brands that you would find at Walmart or just cheap paint . But it really is all about quality and no water puddles before the actual paint comes out . In all it's a great product you won't regret ! I appreciate the artist in these comments , because you guys were so right :) vibrant, professional, and great quality when they dry . I compared Holbein paint to Walmart standard paint tubes . Hopefully it helps , I promise you won't regret ! Great pigmentation and very affordable price. My child and his teacher are happy with the choice.

I wish this contained paynes grey, and the colors aren't as bright as I'd expect from Artist Grade paints. It gets 4 stars for the low price, but I won't be buying Holbein refills for most colors. I think it's a great start to your collection though. Especially if your budget is low.

I love this set of watercolors. I have been painting for 2 years now, and Holbein Artists' quickly became my brand of choice. There is a good variety of colors in this set, and as someone who is relatively new to watercolors, I really appreciate the variety of this set compared to others at this price point.The colors have rich pigment. From my experience, these watercolors don't crack when they dry, and am impressed with the quality of the set. With only 5 ml tubes though, I found myself quickly running out of my favorite colors; but as a beginner painter, I value the freedom to chose from a variety of colors more than a larger tube and the commitment to a specific color that comes with it. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and will not hesitate to purchase Holbein Artists' again!

First time trying these paints. A great value and way to try a range of new colors. Blend and flow beautifully.Would like to see other sample sets with other colors from their catalog before buying larger individual tubes.

I am a super beginner and dont have much experience with water color but these are very beautiful colors and they are vibrant and saturated so a little goes a long way. I dont have a problem with the mixed pigment colors because right now I am not doing much color mixing. I also have a few art stores that sell individual tubes so if I have to have a particular color (like paynes grey) I can go get it. Also if you are new to painting you really need to play with these paints so that you can see how they play together...thats all part of learning if you ask me..you mix some colors you get mud you learn I shouldnt do that and as you grow you will learn what works and what doesnt. If you are dead set on mixing colors you might want to just go to dick blick and get single tubes so you can mix your own colors.

It's a great quality product. I love the smoothness of the gouache and it's just lovely to paint with.
