Nick Redfern goes looking for monsters again!
Full disclosure, I've known Nick for years and consider him a friend. I met him shortly after his return from this journey and have been waiting for this book ever since. Also, it should be noted, I don't believe in the Chupacabra but I was very interested in reading of Nick's adventures after he touched on them shortly after we met. I was excited to finally see it's publication and I'll comment as best I can without bias.I still don't believe in the Chupacabra as a mystical monster but, after reading this book, I have to believe something's been going on and, I suspect, all these sightings and attacks aren't the result of mangy dogs and the like. The evidence suggests that to be the case and, in the end, you have to follow the evidence. Nick spells it all out here and, while the book is more in line with some of his earlier work (Three Men Seeking Monsters especially), ultimately, after all the jungle treks and close encounters, the mystery remains pretty well intact although some revealing insights are offered that had me wondering about the nature of these creatures and their mythology.Ultimately, for me anyway, the joy of this book is not that the mystery is solved at the end (it isn't), but the quest itself. Redfern is many things; researcher, UFO guy, monster hunter & Ramones fan but, in the end he's an adventurer and this is the chronicle of one of his greatest adventures. It's a fun read. It may not convince you the monster is real but it will convince you chasing down legends is a hell of a lot of fun! The insights Nick offers are well constructed, the questions he asks are legitimate, the theories he lays out are sometimes far-fetched, as these things often are, but are based on established myths concerning the Chupacabra. It's up to the reader to decide. The fun is in the discovery and Nick takes you there. That, for me, was the best feature of the book. Believe. Don't believe. That's up to you. Don't read it alone with the lights off!

Loved it!
The author of this book is widely recognized as one of the leading authorities on cryptozoology in the world. This book details the results of investigative research conducted on location by the author in his search to find answers concerning the mysterious chupacabra. Redfern narrates his extensive travels in searching for the elusive beast in a writing style that allows the reader to vicariously experience the adventure, the excitement, and even the dangers encountered along the way. The reader will discover much about the history and lore of the associated locales reporting chupacabra sightings and will also learn of the eerie experiences and descriptions related by eyewitnesses to the chupacabra. An incredible amount of information is presented covering the chupacabra of Puerto Rico and the Texas Blue Dog, which may be more recognizable to some Americans. Many possible explanations or solutions to the chupacabra mystery are presented and discussed at length, some quite plausible and some a little more difficult. There is no definitive solution posited, but enough factual details are related which should give the reader plenty to think about and then possibly reach their own conclusion. This is the best presentation of in-depth information on the chupacabra that I have found. I thought this was a thrilling book to read, partly because of the way it made me feel as if I was right there along for the ride. Chapters are short for easy reading. I highly recommend this book for anyone with an interest in the chupacabra or cryptozoology.

Interesting Read
Mr. Redfern is well known for his books on the paranormal and Fortean and he is so prolific that it is hard to keep track of what his newest work is. This book is a great introduction to the chupacabra subject and Mr. Redfern's extensive field work gives the reader a chance to explore this curious subject in some depth.
