Great for receiving and recording local broadcasts
Works better than expected. Great for receiving and recording local broadcasts. My area picks up well over 120 digital channels. Also can view content from an external HD. An excellent choice to replace overpriced cable/Tivo services if you're content with LOCAL digital broadcasts and watching programming at your convenience. Not a complaint but more an observation.... seems to work better with a powered external desktop hard drive (Like a WD "My Book") than an portable external (WD "My Passport" etc..). I may try a powered USB hub to test options in the future - will update this review at that time. (I purchased this item on Amazon & was not paid or this review.)

Great product
I have been looking for a way to record programs from the tv. I ran across the little tv converter, I read some of the reviews when people was saying this thing don't work, so I figured I would try it. I'm what you call a tech guy.. so I ordered 2 they came in today, hooked one up it took about 5 mis for it to run its setup, but after that it works great. Would I buy this product again yes I would. Great picture

Great box for regular and sub channels
Easy to install. I had an old rca from when digital first started. It still worked but I was getting lines in the picture. I installed this, rescanded , got as many channels as I had before and all the sub channels which are pretty good. The lines are gone and all is well!

I attached a signal booster to the unit and it works perfect..
I use the Digital box on a monitor. I use in a room with no windows. I had a little digital freeze. I attached a signal booster to the unit and it works perfect.......Shows like the Samsung QLED TV. The unit not only capture local channels but also some movie channels...old movies but they are free. The USB port gives the user the ability to play movies and music from a thumb drive...Great Product...Great price. Love it

I am glad the Unit has Component output as the Roku was ...
I decided to cut the cord - In doing that, I discovered my older flat panel TV did not have a Digital Tuner, so I originallyPurchased this item looking for an inexpensive Digital Tuner and guessed the "less expensive" unit may not be theHoly Grail of perfection.I am glad the Unit has Component output as the Roku was in the single HDMI port so I could get a better picture quality. I was pleased that after hooking up the unit and just placing the flat panel antenna anywhere it picked up several stations, with a little effort of placing the antenna in different locations I finally found a place and angle to get all local channels. From a google search and reading on digital signal and antenna's I did find out that just slapping the flat antenna on the wall or someplace is not the best reception and sometimes depending on the location of the TV station transmitter you may need to angle the antenna to receive proper signal. Sure enough up high and at a 45 degree angle I get all the major and public broadcast stations. Once in a while the stations do drop out for a moment or two, but I have this issue as well with my newer TV that does have the ATSC tuner built in.As a nice to have add-on feature I was looking for was the PVR feature. Now I was annoyed that the USB port is on the Front of the device and so you have this cable wrapped around the front of it for the USB drive. But once I connected the little WD USB drive the unit powered up via the USB port and the PVR functions became operational. The PVR functions are a bit disappointing. They operate just like a 1980 VCR recording control. You can NOT find a program or future program and highlight and have a Recording Schedule set. You must create the recording Schedule by entering all data, Channel - start time / End time - Once/Daily/Weekly - Watch or record. The file used to store the programing guide is in a format you cannot edit and create them with a text editor - Reason: The program you want to record may be the 6PM news Monday - Friday so you can watch it when you get home. There is no option to pick days of week, so you need to use the remote and create 5 weekly timers but each timer has to start on a different day or the system complains of a conflict. Very Much the 1980 VCR recording options.A nice feature is the Pause live TV (Time shift). So if you are watching a TV show, have the USB drive connected and you need to leave the room you can hit pause and come back and pick up. Time Shift takes about 30 seconds to get started, so don’t wait until the pee pee dance is bad :)This unit has a single tuner, so when it is recording or in Time Shift, you cannot change channels. I also discovered that during the Schedule program recording I cannot stop the recording. Maybe I have not found the right button but so far it just keeps on until the end time.As others noted - when the unit is recording there is a little box in the upper left of the screen showing that it is recording and never goes away. This is NOT recorded in the show but an overlay while you are watching and recording at the same time. I suspect since there is no indicator on the STB itself for recording mode they solved that in software and overlay it on the screen. One major issue I have is the Program Schedule keeps getting corrupted. I have no idea why, but of the 7 schedules I created twice now some of them just stopped working and when I looked they had channel 65,5xx something set, and the recording type (watch/record) blank. Once this happens you cannot edit the details, you have remember what you had there - delete and recreate the schedule.Per the little manual included I went to the vendor site and I do not find this little guy in the current selling model and so this must be the older non-production unit I found under the support page. Trying to find a software update that may improve some of the PVR functions lead me to a Bulletin Board support site and I did not dig into it for a update. Maybe another day. This unit is not your Dishnetwork/DirectTV/Tiveo recording brother. For the money spent you get a good ATSC digital Tuner and the Flat Panel Antenna works as good as I could have expected, the PVR functions work with the noted limitations. I rated this as a 3 because of the corruption in schedule and believe the software developers could have put some logic into easier program scheduling schedules.

Works just as advertised,,
Very satisfied with the converter box. Was very easy to install and is working very well. I get enough stations so I don't miss cable tv at all. I have not yet discovered how to set recording in advance but I am learning more each day. The best thing is I do not have a one hundred plus cable bill.

Works great
Got this so my wife and I could watch Jeopardy every day. Super easy to setup, although I did add my own longer coaxial cable in order to place the antenna in a higher window. Picks up over 60 channels with great quality. The dvr works great with an external drive, the remote takes a little getting used to but overall very happy with the purchase.
