The Goldfinger Files: The Making of the Iconic Alpine Sequence in the James Bond Movie Goldfinger

Bond on location.
This book has a very narrow focus. It covers in some detail about a week of shooting on location for the Bond movie Goldfinger. The book documents the day by day shooting schedule using a wide range of professional and amateur photo sources. Much more than a collection of publicity shots, the book contains numerous shots taken on set as well as pictures taken during various social events by the cast and crew. Accompanying text provides context for the photos and is informative about various aspects of making a film on location. The book is highly recommended for Bond movie fans.Regarding physical aspects of the book itself, printing and presentation of the photographs are excellent. Many photos are full page, some cover two pages. The binding, paper, and the beautiful cover are really first rate. This quality extends to the gold gilt page edging. But what else would you expect in a book about Goldfinger?

Loved every second of this book
One of my favorite scenes in all of the Bond films has always been the Alpine Drive to Auric Industries sequence, it has always captured one of the most beautiful scenic roads that one day I hope to drive on. This book was a true pleasure from start to finish, very much a coffee table book but the information provided was simply amazing it felt as if I was following along with the cast & crew. Breaking down filming day by day, I really enjoyed the look at what went into making this legendary but very small scene sequence. The book contained many photos that I've never seen before which was nice. Build quality of the book is top notch as well, the gold pages was a nice touch. All in all, I loved every second of my adventure with this book, even more of a bonus was the end section containing then and now photos, really amazing that the area has not changed much since 1964! Cannot thank the authors enough for their work in the making of this book, Thank you for allowing me to go back in time and explore this amazing film.

Great inside view of some iconic scenes
This is a COOL book! Lots of never before seen photos and never before heard stories regarding the Aston Martin DB5 scenes in Goldfinger. A must for every Bond or car enthusiast.

The Book I Never Wanted to End!
I am always wary of five star product reviews (Are they written by the product creator's cousin? Grandmother?) I say with no hesitation this book is fabulous. It doesn't even matter if you're a Bond fan (however, I am the biggest!). If you've ever wanted to know what really goes on during the making of a motion picture and the logistics required to get the job done, go no further than this book. I noticed as I read this book and looked at the accompanying photographs, I completely lost my sense of present day and was immediately swept back to another time and place the likes of which, sadly, we wiil never experience again. This is as much a telling, historical book about post war Swiss sensibilities as the logistics needed to film Goldfinger. The photos are so candid that you feel as if you're becoming immersed in your own family album! As strange as that sounds those were my feelings. When you watch the movie, "Goldfinger," you tend to mythologize all the onscreen actors and yet as you look at the photos in this book you see larger-than-life Connery hamming it up in front of the camera, striking the same exact poses your crazy Uncle Louie did at your cousin's Bar Mitzvah. What a revelation! The cast and crew are just like us! This isn't just a book for Bond movie fans. It's a revealing look at how normal people do what it takes to create movie greatness. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. The only book to surpass this would be the same idea for the Bond movie, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," also filmed in Switzerland.

Amazing Book
In a word, this book is: Incredible! This book is truly a monumental achievement in both the content that it's covering and in the quality of the book itself. The books is over flowing with gorgeous photographs of the locations and behind the scenes of one of the most iconic sequences in film history. I love that this book is so focused on a particular sequence and not just a 'coffee table' book that gives a nice over view to the film. This book makes it real and it's incredible. I buy just about every film book I come across and thus have read a few dozen books on the making of James Bond films and never have I been so blown away by how much new content has been uncovered to make this book. As for the build quality of the book- I am enchanted. There's no other word for it. The book is a larger size (completely a good thing) because it allows for enlarged photographs. The paper is heavy duty and because the book is about the film Goldfinger... the page edges are gold... Filigree? Foil? Not sure the right word but the book is amazing.I've never written about the 'build quality' of a book before but this book really 'knocks it out of the park' and hope the writers, researchers, editors, creators of the book do many, many more books on James Bond. I almost feel like there needs to be a 'behind the scenes / making of' documentary on how they researched, wrote and made this book.

An outstanding behind-the-scenes visual history of the filming of this iconic scene from Goldfinger. Shows not just the filming itself but candid photos during downtime as well as after hours revelry. If you are a James Bond fan, this is a must have!

One of the very best James Bond related books
Having been an avid Bond fan for many, many years I was truly amazed by this book. So many candid photos I'd never seen, such an in-depth account of the days shooting this iconic sequence. To top it all, the finish of the book, with its gold-edged pages, is superb. If you are a casual Bond fan it may be a tad too niche, but if you're a Bond nut it's an essential purchase.

great content.
I had waited a long time for my pre order of this book, I think this is a further printing run and while I was happy with the content and text I was somewhat disappointed with the print quality of my copy of the book, all the black and white images , including the cover, seem too dark, Im not an expert on printing technology but the print quality looked " heavy" on all the images, as if there was too much ink and it had blocked in, I think it might be some kind of quality control issue, Im wondering if this is particular to the second print run.

Entertaining book of an iconic film scene
With pictures, prints of call sheets this book is a fantastic chronicle of the week when the Alpine Sequence of Goldfinger was shot. It could be that most of the images are available on the net, but the quality print and the descriptions make this book worth the money for all Goldfinger fans.
