Destroyers of World War Two: An International Encyclopedia

Wonderful book. Loads of info on lesser navies.
I really enjoyed this book. It has a wealth of information on navies besides the big three. Also, except for Japan and Russia I don't think I have seen any of the multitude of pictures in this book before.

Book arrived quicker than expected. The book is a good resource for historical research about WWII battleships.

great book
Very informative and complete book on Destroyers. Has much background info and most technical information in easy read format. One of the best books on warships I have ever read I went out and bought the books on Cruisersas well as the one on battleships. My only regret is they don't have on on carriers yet

If your a Navy geek, this one is for you
Perfect compliment to Cruisers of WWII.After burying my face in this compendium of things Destroyer, I never realized how often these poor little unarmored ships paid the price of direct war. These were some interesting designs and amazingly BRAVE folks. Seems like half the destroyers assigned in WWII, never survived WWII. A great book about great little ships

Capital Ships.
I enjoyed this book for the variety of ships it offers the reader. I was not necessarily interested in every nations big ships, but it was still a very entertaining book. I particularly enjoyed the american ships, and the british ships. Both nations have had large navies, and an interesting showcase of vessels. I recommend this book as a good catalog of ships, giving the reader a good grasp of WW11 naval ships and warfare. JRV

Essential Reference-Part One
This is the first book in a series of three that describe the hardware of all the navies of World War II. This volume describes, in detail, every class of destroyer of every nation and every projected class of every nation that saw service or was contlemplated durring WWII. It also gives a description of the war service of many of these ships. This book is well illistrated with many excellant photos of many of these ships. This book is the best volume describing the destroyers of World War II. I cannot recommend this book haghly enough-it is really that good.

The Greyhounds of the Sea.
They were apply named as tincans, but they did yeoman service in the second world war. They were the guardians of convoys, and the first line of defense for the naval task forces. They willingly sacrificed themselves at the battle of Samar, to prevent Admiral Kuritas heavy ships from destroying Gen. Macarthurs landing forces. They fought it out againsst the suicide planes off Okinawa. These little ships did so much for the war effort, that they will always hold a special place in the history of the US Navy. JRV

This is a very good book. It covers good basic info on a lot of ships from different country's. Not to deep. basic line drawings. It does not have the fine detail construction type drawings some other books will have. For the price it will get you started on the road to a good hobby.

Good
Between this and Conways this is the better book. Well illustrated with photographs however the line drawings are a little crude. The author does restrict himself very strictly to WW2 which is annoyiong in places, ie he doesn't touch upon the fates of the ships which survived the war into the 50's or 60's. However as a coffee table book it scores, but I do find myself dipping between this and the Conways effort as the latter covers the whole dreadnought period...if only we could combine the best of both!Minor but irritating point..the text has few paragraph breaks..ie the service record is one continuous block of text with no breaks at natural intervals.
