Worth hunting for
This is the most comprehensive, well written and illustrated treatise on lilies that I have been able to find. Despite the passage of time since its publication, its information is not out of date. The author's broad and long experience in growing and propagating lilies is conveyed in an easily understood manner, and his love for his work shines through.

Book
Nice condition as described. Not pristine since it used to be a library issued copy, but no more damage than it might get in an average home over a few years on the coffee table.

The lily hybridizer's Bible
This book is an incredible resource for those wishing to try their hand at lily hybridization. A word of warning though, it really is not written for the layperson. While you do not have to have a Ph.d. in botany to understand the contents, those with a fair amount of horticultural experience will benefit the most. The book is clearly and concisely written, and is also organized nicely. The photos are beautiful and the line drawings are very helpful. It is the most in-depth discussion of lilies I have ever encountered, written by one of the world's experts in the field. I hope others will enjoy it as much as I have.

Definitive, highly readable, essential reference
The title says it all, this is a book for those who have a keen interest in Lilium. Although an excellent introduction there are many, cheaper books that will serve those who have only a casual interest well. For the specialist this a "must have". All such readers wil be well aware of the author's reputation in, and contributions to, the world of lilium breeding and cultivation. It should sit alongside Derek Fox's excellent "Growing Lilies" as a ready reference. I rate Fox slightly ahead on the cultivation of species lilium, but McRae shines on the hybrids to which he personally contributed so highly.Sadly, both of these authors have passed away - so that neither book will see a revised edition from the original author. Although both remain excellent, geo-political changes which have increased species availability, progress in breeding new hybrids, and changes to the availability of pesticides mean that both these excellent books would benefit from sympathetic updating.

Timber Press comes up trumps again
Excellent book, very readable, the only one I have come across which covers lilies from the standpoint of species forms and how these were developed by breeders to form new cultivars. What you would expect from Timber Press which has a pedigree of fine books on a wide range of plants and horticultural matters
