Fun start to another Jack Porter series
I recently finished Jack Porter's first series, Wraith King, which was very different (much darker tone, more traditional fantasy setting) but I liked it quite a bit. I'm glad to have started his second series with Rogan's Monsters. Here, the characters are equally good, but interaction is more light-hearted with more touches of humor and the setting more RPGish. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. One thing I like about Porter's series is that they get to the point and come to a conclusion. Too many similar series that start with great promise -- interesting setting, great characters, intriguing story line -- seem to amble on and on and then just kind of stop, with it being unclear if that was supposed to be the end or whether the author just got tired of the series (or wrote himself into a corner) and decided to move on. Some have criticized Porter's series as being too short, but he understands the wisdom of finishing a story while readers are still engrossed.

Needed more length, needed more character, needed depth
This one is just below 4 star for me. The biggest issue is that we have an MC who is angsty enough to drive me crazy, along with a time travel / rip van winkle element that wasn't developed enough to help raise the story up. Instead we get what felt like a boiler plate "I fell through the looking glass" type of man in new world, saving damsels and removing their dresses tale. The characters don't get enough page time to develop, the relationships lack any kind of depth with the sex happening because the MC can "recharge" the girls if they bounce on his happy stick until it spurts rather than from any real relationship. And the way the timeline jumps was a bit of a jarring clash with the rest of the early plot. Most of this is little. The book is good, and written fairly well, but for me the feeling that the story could have had so much more was always there. I give it a very high 3 star. I think others have done this storyline better, but this does rise up a bit out of the morass that the harem fantasy genre has become.

Pleasant surprise
Picked this book up as a fluke after finishing another. Came up on my recommended list and the intro was intriguing enough that I began to read. I am extremely happy that I did, because this book was a pleasant surprise as a sleeper, with a good storyline, well developing characters and enough conflict (comedic and otherwise), for the MC and companions to be well worth following. This book has quietly piqued my interest and I am very much looking forward to reading the next book. For anyone sitting on the fence, just give this a couple chapters, you will be drawn in as well. Going to see what else this author has written, see what other characters and adventures may await.

Great Story
Rogan died in a battle died in the present and is somehow transported to a post apocalyptic future with magic in the form of chi into the body of a warrior master swordsman and chi user. Regaining consciousness in the middle of a battle he begins to learn to use his new powers keeping those in his charge safe. He is bound by an oath to a self absorbed princess and her servant as they travel through the wasted to reach a mysterious temple. Picking up others on the way they battle an evil Wraith that wants to capture him and his friends. Excellent writing with characters that you come to care about, this is a very enjoyable read that will keep you turning pages. I strongly recommend this book.

Enjoyable read!
I enjoyed reading this book. I am finding myself looking forward to seeing where the storyline takes us. I like how Chi can be replenished. Definite looking forward to reading the next book.

Nothing groundbreaking, but good
The first few chapters were a bit rough to make it through and having finished the book, I feel that most of the info from those first few chapters was irrelevant as it was mostly undone one the story got going.I appreciated the few twists the story had and the writing and editing were on point. There's a few questions unanswered, but aside from that, it was a simple and straightforward book. There's nothing wrong with the story, it just didn't blow my mind, so "only" four stars.

Surprisingly good.
This isn't the type of book that I would normally read, and for the first few chapters I had my doubts about whether or not I would continue. I typically stick to fantasy novels, and this story has some strong science fiction elements. After reading several chapters, however, it surprised me, and I found myself turning page after page. I find myself intrigued to see how the rest of the story turns out. I would definitely recommend others to give it a shot. You may find yourself pleasantly surprised as well.

Not his best.
It was a good story. It really was. But I've read the bastard series and it was better, and I've read the wraith King and it was absolutely amazing. This one while good, just doesn't compare to the others done by the same author. Hence the missing star

Solid and enjoyable start
An interesting start, with a moder / high-tech twist which awakens into a more classic post-apocalyptic setting with magic and powers. The hero is interesting, if a bit confrontational - but considering his situation it's understandable. The characters portrayed are interesting and so far at least not one dimensional stereotypes. Time will tell as ultimately this is a harem adventure so there's bound to be plenty of action.... of both types. Will keep an eye out for following volumes. And as a last thought doesn't the Butterfly girl on the cover look like Rias Gremory in leather hot-pants ?

Good but could be great.
The start was a bit boring like all other novels where the MC dies and comes back to life in another world ect...Overall the main plot is lacking a bit and I find myself more than once thinking how how this is all going to work together?I really did enjoy this book and am looking forward the next book. I hope some characters have a slight change in personality, or at least explain why they act they way they do. It grates me a bit but it’s not really off putting.Highly recommend if you are looking for some badass fighting and a little sexy time while wondering what the hell is happening lol.

Wastelands
First 18% rubbish but then when the story finally get started it's good. I kept reading because I know it would change and get better, well I hoped and was not wrong, my opinion. Shame does not exPain much about the change and the Mc difference of how he got into the body he now lives in.

A very good start
A gripping read that promises to be the start of a very good series , the kind of book where you finish the first and wait impatiently for the next episode

I heartily enjoyed it
Definitely not something I'd probably normally read but I most certainly enjoyed it nevertheless, definitely very interesting and I am looking forward to reading next one.
