Second Banana: A Picture Book

I used it for my childrens musical theater classes. They acted it out and studied teach character. Was NOT a waste of time. Clever twist at the end!

I love this book! What a sweet story about finding friendship in unexpected places. Cute illustrations too.

We LOVE this book! All the kiddos in food costumes are just the CUTEST and the story is so relatable! We love the illustrations so much. And who doesn't love a story with moody bananas! FIVE STARS

Mrs. Millet’s class is putting on the “Food is Fun Healthy Eating Good Nutrition Pageant” and everyone gets to play a part: bread, rice,broccoli, pepper. But one child is NOT happy to share the role of banana. Full of banana puns and heartfelt illustrations, this book is very a-peeling!

Second banana made me laugh out loud several times; Blair Thornburgh's writing captures so perfectly a kind of kid's inner monologue -- anxiety and plain language all wrapped up together. Kate Berube's drawings really elevate the text and story. I love how the sepia wobbly line can translate so well into character expressions; they add so much/go so far in communicating the emotional state of Second Banana and her classmates. Really enjoyed this picture book, and looking forward to sharing it with kids in my life!

My almost 3yo loves this book. It’s such a fun book and the illustrations are amazing. It showcases all the favorite, and not so favorite, foods of children. Does a great job of promoting healthy eating and teaching kids to share. We love the picture of the banana laying facedown sad. Such fun in the illustrations. Great book!

I love Second Banana. It's so cute, the illustrations are SO FUN to look at, and it's got a nice message. My son loves the page with all the many fruits and vegetables. Thanks for a great read, this is a keeper!
