Well-designed and rugged shell for bushwhacking in cool & dry conditions.
I grabbed this to use for bushwhacking & trail maintenance in dense, thorny underbrush, and for that it's perfect (for cool, relatively dry conditions)The material does an excellent job as "thorn armor", and the baggier fit & mesh lining allows for plenty of freedom of movement, airflow, and helps keep any thorns that do penetrate the material away from your skin. This is an exceptionally well-designed garment. Plenty of ventilation, a wonderful pocket system (the little hanger loops sewn into some of the pockets and the lining are a godsend), and adjustment points at the sleeves, waist, and hem that make it easy to roll things up & down for different applications. Pockets are positioned conveniently to interface with pack straps, and all the zippers/closures are easy to operate one-handed, while wearing work gloves.I tend to run hot, but in my experience this is a bit too hot (over just a baselayer) for temps above about 60F during moderate-heavy activity (hiking, sawing, chopping, etc).A few quibbles:1. Size down. I wear a US large in tops/jackets from Patagonia, Arcteryx, Columbia, Montbell, Outdoor Research, North Face, etc. etc. etc. and took an M here. Even sizing down the jacket has a very loose, boxy fit. As mentioned above this is helpful for my applications, but if you're looking for something to wear as a fashion statement you might want to go down 2 sizes, unless you're going for that "boyfriend hoody" look.2. Hood design. Under pack straps, the shoulders pull the hood down tight onto your head, which is annoying from a comfort perspective and interferes with turning your head.3. Water resistance. Under any extended or heavy precip, this gets soaked. I treated it with Nikwax Cotton-Proof and that greatly improved the water resistance, but if you're expecting anything more than a light shower you'll want to bring a poncho or other shell.4. Weight. It's a big, heavy garment. Not something you can stow in a pack as a "just in case" item. If you expect to layer down while out in the field, expect to lash this to the outside of your pack

Best bang for the buck!
I purchased this anorak several months ago and the weather is finally cooling down enough for me to use it regularly. It's extremely comfortable over a wide range of temperatures due to the mesh lining and the zippers.I washed it with Nicwax TX and it's almost 100% waterproof. The pockets are all convenient and well thought out. Storage space is excellent without compromising your ability to move across the terrain. The lower pockets are really well placed, allowing you to access them while wearing a backpack. The fabric is stretchy enough to lend itself to any outdoor activity, and seems durable enough for any conditions.I would suggest buying it one size smaller. Normally I would buy an XL in order to be able to add layers underneath, but a large with the Pilgrim allows me to wear a base layer and a merino wool sweater underneath without sacrificing flexibility of movement.Overall design has been well thought out with straps, zippers, pockets, and draw cords optimally placed for comfort and usefulness. You really won't find anything better for twice the price!

Great Jacket, Poor Sizing by Helikon, Still Like Fjall Raven More
I wound up not receiving this jacket from Amazon because the distributor didn't have coyote. However, I ordered it from Helikon in US Small. I am 5'8, 135 lbs, average build). I received it and noticed it says "EU: M / US: Small." The "small" is at best a Large; at best. I had to return it and order a US: X Small / EU: Small to get a jacket that fits well but will still accommodate under layers during winter months. For a tighter fit, XXS would still fit me, only without the option of comfortably wearing under layers. All that to say that Helikon's sizes are nonsensical unless you're overweight or very built. As far as quality, it seems like a great product so far. I like it more than my Fjall Raven Vida Pro, although that's only because this one has a bunch of vent pockets. I still think Fjall Raven has better quality materials, and the Vida Pro pants are way more comfortable, convenient (because of great quality metal buttons), and better designed/ placed pockets. Recommend the Anorak, get Fjall Raven pants. If I find Helikon to meet or exceed my Fjall Raven equivalent garments, through my backpacking/ bushcraft experience, I'll update this review. This distributor is great and responsive. I find no fault with them. They were quick to notify and refund me for the slight mistake in color.

Love it. Runs on the roomy side sizing.
I normally wear a large. I purchased the small. (5'11" 200# athletic build) I wear with an under shirt and heavy long sleeve fleece or wool shirt. Range of motion is perfect with articulation, sleeve length and tail length being ideal (definitely not short). Donning is only slightly difficult due to the length bunching up when initially getting over/around the shoulder/chest area. Removing tends to be fairly easy with slight material prep. I chose to layer over when needing extra warmth...it's been in the teens and with a single overlayer it teams up to be a great option for me. It has already proven to be a regular outdoor necessity. The pockets are well placed and comfortable while packing gear (very adequate for no-backpack hikes). Zippers are well made. The hood is large and pairs well with boonies, caps or beanies. The medium would have worked. I wasn't wanting to bulk underlayer but to wear with less loose material. My Helikon Anorak will be well used and most likely last for many seasons.

Not backpacker light but great for the outdoors
This anorak/jacket is a great outdoor piece of kit. I treated mine with Nikwax and it makes a great shell. It looks great and using this by itself in spring and fall, or with layers in winter makes it very versatile. Great selection of usable pockets along with a fully adjustable hood. I bought the Saiga green and it looks great!

top quality gear
as a man that spends a lot of time outdoors in the Canadian wilderness i can honestly say this clothing system/jacket is amazingly adapted to all kinds of weather. i have used it in hot sand pine forests, throughout the northern boreal forest and on prairie plateaus as well as along the deep rivers of the peace river watershed. i use the Helikon-Tex wolfhound jacket under it for cooler weather and the two work together perfectly. to be honest i bought both in tan and green. this is high quality gear and worth the money.

Great jacket.
Very pleased with this jacket, particularly after waxing it with a few coats of homemade Greenland wax.Very well thought out design with large, easy accessible pockets and a good hood. I added a bit of wire to the peak to help control in in windy weather.Only problem with it is that my kids keep wanting to borrow it, so I may need to get another.
