A excellent movie about a comeback boxing champ who buys his son a race horse so his son can be just like the champ champ is John voiught!! Giggle says it's the saddest of all time ..you be the judge

I disliked that the champ went back into the ring ,and when he was injured real bad , he endangered his life and fought and won the match, the head injury killed him! I liked at the end, that his little son, "T.J" Timothy Joseph was able to be with his mother, Annie! She, and he !oved each other, with that same strong bond between mother and son! I Love this movie, entitled The Champ! Thank You all, who had a part in making this very beautiful movie, including Amazon❤, Prime Video, and❤hearts, for the rest of the you all who had a part in the making of this Wonderful tear jerking film!!!

I remember seeing this movie in the theater when I was 16. I still recall that everybody there was crying by the end. I don't think I've seen a performance by a child star that can rival little Ricky Schroder's effort in this film. This was his first acting job and he stole the show with what was easily an Oscar winning performance. This movie is a remake of an older film by the same title made back in the early 1930's; this remake is superior on all counts. Jackie Cooper, then age nine played the role covered here by Schroder, who turned eight, while on the set. Wallace Beerey played the title role done here by Jon Voight. The film is about as perfect as any drama could hope to be because it deals so honestly with very real family issues. Especially the love of a father for his son. The events told in the story could happen to anyone. Perhaps that's why it was such a success in the theaters. Performaces by all the actors were simply fantastic, but again Schroder's will leave you stunned. I've never been able to get through this film without tearing up; as it's unquestionably, one of the most powerfully emotional films ever made.I highly recommend it to everyone. The DVD has a very honest and insightful audio commentary by both Voight and Schroder. Their comments actually reinforce the picture's true emotional power; and together, they recall special moments that clearly indicate to it's viewers, why this movie will always stand the test of time. You'll see why the Best Picture Oscar should have gone to this film, it earned it in every sense of the word.

Good family movie love Ricky Shroder

I'm so glad I was able to get this movie on DVD. It's one of the greats!

I don't know how many times I have seen this movie I cry every time. I first saw this when it came out in the late 70's in a theater !! One of my best.

This is an older movie back when Jon Voight and I were younger and Ricky Shroder was a little boy. It might have even been Ricks first movie. I ordered it because I saw this back then in a movie house and I wanted to see if it was as good as I remember. It was and made me sad for the same reason it did originally Voight has made a lot of good movies in later times and Ricky kind of disappeared after Silver Spoons and that detective TV show but they were good actors. I actually better understood this time that it was better that he had someone, his mom, (Faye Dunaway) to be with, but those lines..."You're not my mother,"...and that final gut wrenching scene when TJ (Shroder) calls,"Wake up," still tug at the heartstrings. I'd forgotten so much of the movies and the horse part had been completely forgotten. Yes I liked this movie again...and probably will always like it.

It’s a great movie for everybody - men, women couples, families, everyone! My boyfriend rented the movie for us just recently and I was just blown away by it and couldn’t believe I didn’t even see it until year 2022!

Ich bin immer noch so fasziniert von diesem bewegenden, Gänsehaut erzeugenden und Tränen erregenden Sportfilmdrama aus den 70ern. Zu Weihnachten habe ich mir an Herz gefasst und mir die DVD gekauft, und ich habe es nicht bereut. Die Hauptdarsteller: Jon Voight als Billy Flynn, Faye Dunaway als Annie Flynn, Ricky Schroder als Timothy Joseph Flynn als genannt „T.J.“, Jack Warden als Jackie, Joan Blondell als Dolly Kenyon, Arthur Hill als Mike, Strother Martin als Riley, Elisha Cook als Georgie, Stefan Gierasch als Charlie Goodman, Mary Jo Catlett als Josie, Dana Elcar als Hoffmaster und Anwalt, Sam Levene als Onkel Eddie haben alle In diesem Film anwesenden Schauspieler ihre Rollen perfekt gespielt. Handlung des Films: Billy Flynn ist 37 Jahre alt und war in jungen Jahren ein erfolgreicher Boxer. Dieser Zeit trauert er immer noch nach und überlegt, wie sein Leben hätte verlaufen können, wenn er sich etwas mehr angestrengt hätte. Jetzt verbringt er seine Zeit auf der Pferderennbahn und verdient sein Geld als Trainer für Galopprennpferde. Er boxt zwar gelegentlich noch, glaubt aber nicht an sein Comeback. Für seinen Sohn T.J. ist sein Vater der größte Held; er ist fest davon überzeugt, dass er noch einmal Karriere machen kann. Um seinem Sohn schließlich ein besseres Leben finanzieren zu können, steigt Billy Flynn noch einmal in den Ring.

Deux ans après avoir réalisé le gigantesque film "Jésus de Nazareth", Franco Zeffirelli décide de se tourner vers une histoire beaucoup plus intimiste, celle d'un petit garçon qui admire son père, ancien champion de boxe. Le charme de ce film opère tout de suite dès le début du long-métrage grâce à une formidable photographie de la nature et par le rapport père/fils interprétés respectivement et avec talent par Jon Voight et Rick Schroder. Ce rapport traduit l'amour, le père n'a que le fils et le fils n'aime que son père, cette solitude ne semble pas les gêner puisqu'ils se suffisent à eux-mêmes jusqu'à ce que la mère de l'enfant qui l'avait abandonné apparaît dans ce couple jouée par Faye Dunaway. Le film se classe dans plusieurs catégories: comédie, action, drame, mélodrame. Le film joue la carte de l'émotion dans des rapports difficiles, celle d'une mère qui veut connaître son enfant et l'enfant qui ne sait pas qu'elle est sa mère. Que retient-on de ce film? C'est qu'il est tout simplement grand et sublime débouchant sur un final spectaculaire et dramatique. Jon Voight trouve ici le rôle de sa vie, celle d'un ancien boxeur champion du monde qui veut remonter sur le ring pour gagner de l'argent afin que son fils ne manque de rien. Les questions sont les suivantes: une mère peut-elle reprendre son fils après l'avoir abandonné pendant ses huit premières années pour effectuer une grande carrière dans le milieu de la mode? Le gamin qui adore son père pourra-t-il vivre sans sa présence, lui qui l'admirait tant pour ses exploits sportifs malgré le milieu riche dans lequel baigne sa mère? Celui qui aura vu le film pourra sans doute trouver des réponses à ces questions qui paraissent simples mais les sentiments humains ne concordent parfois pas avec les statistiques car l'émotion ne se calcule pas comme des mathématiques et c'est cette humanité qui sort de ce film qui le rend si universel. Franco Zeffirelli élabore et signe un film gigantesque et vraiment extraordinaire.
