This is a CRITQUE...many reviews here are misleading
I didn't read every review, but what I typically do is read the one-star reviews first. Many are giving one star to this book thinking it's the 1619 Project, while evidently not realizing this is a CRITIQUE of the 1619 project. All the more reason why one star reviews cannot be trusted, because even I agree with the one star reviews, while giving this book a five star rating. Let me provide a few quotes to help the undecided to see that this is a fair and balanced book:"Hannah-Jones’s argument nonetheless contains kernels of truth that complicate the historians’ assessment, without overturning it." Of course, Hannah-Jones is the author of the 1619 project."...the cause of emancipation was aided—rather than impeded—by the American Revolution."And as a Lincoln fan (showing my bias) the author provides: "...the evidence of Lincoln’s sincere support for colonization is overwhelming. This finding carries with it the substantial caveat that Lincoln did not pursue this course out of personal racial animosity. Quite the contrary, his public and private statements consistently link the policy to his personal fears that former slave-owners would continue to oppress African-Americans after the Civil War." It doesn't take a genius to see that Lincoln's concerns for the freed slaves were justified. In fact, his concerns were realized by the century that followed emancipation (Jim Crow...segregation...).I believe one other review says you "can't debunk facts." No, you can't, but you can certainly debunk the interpretation of those facts, and that is what this book does so well.

Clearly lays out major deficiencies in the 1619 Project narrative
The author gives the Project credit where it is due, particularly in regard to its possibly more realistic reading of Lincoln. Mainly, though, the author points out the major flaws in the agenda-based narratives that attempt to convince readers that the primary motivation for the American Revolution was to preserve slavery. At best, the Project authors ignore serious scholarship that would disabuse them of that notion. At worst, some of them seem intent on ignoring such scholarship and refusing to engage with serious historians. Similar defects plague other Project authors' claims that capitalism is somehow deeply linked to slavery and tainted forever by that association. It is false, demonstrably so, and the author presents more than enough information to show that. All articles show the sources of all claims and presentations. They are mostly straightforward and suitable for laymen. A few passages are just a bit more involved but can be navigated if the reader is serious about digesting everything the author is offering. This is an important book because the claims in the 1619 Project are so outrageous, I would say vile in large part, and they are being injected into the culture by the New York Times and all the usual suspects. Accordingly, it is of the utmost importance that we arm ourselves with a clear understanding of the deeply flawed work being presented and push back against it at every opportunity. This book provides more than enough basis for that understanding.

Read truth not lies
America is being destructed right before your eyes due the ignorance of the American people. Your most needed infrastructures for freedom, the 5th estate(and if you don't know what means your are part of the problem) and education. The 1619 project is not designed to education, it is designed to sow discord and dissension in the core of America. It is the product of a nation hater and progressives who want to destroy the Country. This short document goes through the 1619 project and reveals the lies, half truths, and ignorance of the project. The project is propaganda pure and simple originated with radicals who hate this Country and it's founding principles. It America perfect, of course not, the simple fact 11 of the original 13 colonies goal was to end slavery from the original inception is somehow not offered in this 'education' piece tells you something and that the Civil War was the culmination of wanting the practice ended. The war was declared over States rights but the foundation of was a Country willing to fight itself to get equality for all. You will find that dedication to freedom no where else on the Planet.....but this document is more interested in fomenting hatred, destruction, and anarchy in the minds of your children. Sadly, too few Americans today really know anything about the system that has given them the freedoms they have and they rush to their own doom, because of it. Hope you can adjust to Socialism because that is one of the goals of 1619 project. Do yourself a huge favor and read this before your children are indoctrinated.

An excellent addition to the library
The author meticulously gives "both sides" to the argument of CRT and adds substance to his arguments by citing every critical and well-thought-out argument. This makes me convinced that the time is now that race and racism is discussed at all levels and in all schools if we are ever to be rid of the hatred for races is to be done away with. I grew up in a racist family who covered racism with a total misunderstanding of their bible: that led me to author numerous books on biblical fables and pronouncements ( Noah and the Ark, Moses: Making of Myth and Law, Gomorrah, etc).

An excellent critique of a false history
"The 1619 Project: A Critique" identifies the historical lies, falsehoods, and misrepresentations of the Hanna-Jones 1619 Project. With scholarly documentation, something totally lacking in the Project, this book points out and clarifies the errors introduced by the activist journalism of the Project. This is NOT a right-wing, anti-1619 Project book. It is a clearly written and well documented critique. There is no playing games with our history, unlike that practiced by the Project ideologues. It is history written by a well respected historian. Bottom line, if you are confused by the claims of the Project and want to understand the truth, read this book!

Much needed clarity
So much that is claimed about the 1619 Project gets parroted by individuals and media, and audiences don't really dig deep. When I started exploring, the author's name kept cropping up and I was led to this book. Keep in mind that the book is a collection of articles by the author, published at different times, so it feels a bit repetitive in moments. However, it is an important resource to anyone seeking clarity on a 'project' that had such vociferous acclaim from certain media outlets that it seemed to need closer examination from the start. The author traces back many of the claims made in the 1619 project and by its proponents, clarifying problems in methodology and research, exposing misrepresentations and erroneous aspects, and confirming other aspects that may have struck some as shocking or dubious. In this respect, it is a fair analysis from someone really close to the academic world from which the project apparently arose. The author's firsthand experiences bolster this important and useful book.
