What this will write on
I really wanted to leave a review about this product. I bought a few rolls of chalkboard contact paper, also from Amazon. I was uncertain if I could use liquid chalk on such a surface given the mixed reviews about chalkboards getting damaged by this product. The contact paper is of course not the same as an actual chalkboard or a surface painted with chalkboard paint, but still I couldn't find anyone willing to tell me if it would work on the contact paper. I even called the company who makes the contact paper...they didn't return my call. Really I didn't want to spend 25+ on markers that wouldn't work or would damage the contact paper. As the instructions state I tested a small area of my chalkboard contact paper. I tested several times waiting longer before erasing the chalk ink each time. It erases like a charm! It comes right off with either a slightly damp rag or windex for a larger erasing job. The only thing I did notice is that when the surface is wet you will see the outline of what you are erasing, when it dries however it is gone. Perhaps over time this may become an issue, but even if it is, the contact paper is cheap enough to replace even if I had to every few years. On the package it states can be used on actual chalkboards, it says this right on the front though per reviews I know this has not worked for many customers. I have not used it on an actual chalkboard or painted chalkboard product so I can't speak to that. Again it does say to test your area first. One really awesome thing I also learned is that it can write on smooth surface fridge fronts and wipes right off. If you have a black smooth front appliance like me, you will really loves these!

Amazing fun for Mom, and anyone else if you'd like to share!
After wanting a chalkboard wall forever now, I finally took the plunge after moving into a new home with just one super ugly door! The door was very industrial and served its purpose, with nothing wrong with the door, I painted it with Rustoleum Chalkboard Paint Rust-Oleum 206540 Chalkboard Brush-On, Black, 30-Ounce ... my husband thought I was crazy. This is a door in our kitchen that leads to the utility room, then the garage. VERY HIGH TRAFFIC. He was irritated that I was going to adorn this door with dusty chalk which would leave a mess in the air, on our clothes, hands, whatever brushed against the door. Think about it, how many times to you catch a door with your bum? Or hold the door open for your children with your bum, you know, purse in one hand, child in other, holding the door for the others to eventually make their way through. These markers are the solution to my husbands gripe. He was even put off by the price, until I left him a silly message on the microwave with these Chalk Ink markers. I got the hubs to crack a smile about this "necessary" purchase... eventually it let to silly/sweet messages from both sides! Yes, these are amazing. Treat yourself. Have that chalk wall of your dreams with out all of the dust that your husband is dreading. These clean up easily with a moist rag of any kind.

Bright, Bold Colors!
I've never used chalk ink pens before so I wasn't sure what to expect with these. They work like paint pens, where you shake it up and the color comes out as a liquid then dries. They look like paint pens on the chalkboard as well, so make sure that's the "look" you are going for rather than a traditional chalk look. I personally love them. Also, you need to remove them using a wet cloth rather than an eraser like with traditional chalk. The first time you use them, you have to shake them for a while and hold down the tip of the pen for a while for the color to come out, but after that first time they are ready to go.I was deciding between these primary colors and the more pastel ones, and am glad I chose these.. the colors are bright and beautiful. I think the pastels would have been more dull looking.Be sure to test your surface before using the pens... it does leave a faint imprint behind on my chalkboard after I've erased it.. but it doesn't really bother me.The reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is I do think they are just a bit overpriced.

Works well on our painted walls
I see quite a few reviews here stating that this will "ruin" chalk painted walls. We have not found this to be the case. The colors are bright and readable save the blue and green, they don't show up as well on the black back ground. We change our chalk boards on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, so sometimes we have to use a cleaner on the painted walls to get everything off but nothing is ever permanent. For those of you wondering how we painted our wall to avoid permanent staining, here were our steps. To prep our walls we put down a solid base coat of primer. Over the course of a few days we layered on 2-5 coats of paint (depending on how long we were going to leave the pain on, more coats for longer). We waited the prescribed amount of time before using the boards which was around 2 days I believe. The most important step we do, which some might find an inconvenience, is we but down a layer of "regular" chalk first, then wipe it off of the painted board. This is following the directions on the back of our chalk board paint can, and I attribute this step to our stain free walls.

Do the trick....BUT not all the colors will work on your chalkboard
I'm using this on a vinyl chalkboard decal thats on my wall. Because of the texture of the vinyl, I was a bit worried about whether or not this would work but I tested it in a small area and it WORKED. The tip of the pen allows you to write very nicely. The only thing I'm disappointed about is that several of the colors are such a dark hue that they won't work on a dark colored bored---as most chalkboards ARE. The blue is more of a navy, so it won't show up on my board, and of course the black doesn't show up. Also, the green is a hunter green color which is also too dark to be able to show up on a chalkboard. If you're using a white board, not a problem, otherwise if you're using black chalkboard save some money and buy the smaller pack of pens that doesn't include all the extra colors as they won't show up anyways! ;)I will buy these again--will just be more careful about what colors I buy so that I can be sure they'll all show up/work!
