Mostly my own fault
The shell is great by itself, quite sturdy. I unfortunately can’t get to the main board on my controller so I was unable to see if it was compatible but I ordered anyway, but sadly it doesn’t fit, it was so close though. I am sad :(

Received it broken.
I’ve been buying products from eXtremeRate and loved it all but this is my first time receiving a product that’s broken. The box the product came in wasn’t damaged at all either, must be handling issues.

Not perfect...
It looks great and didn't really have much issues with the back half of the controller. But the mold was warped and so the top and bottom don't fit well. Not bad though, overall.

Worth
I purchased both the front and back shell sold by the same company so my review reflects my experience with both.Modding controllers can be pretty nerve wracking but it's absolutely doable. This shell in terms of quality was better than I expected and while it's not real wood it's a nice enough fake. I was surprised because the front and back shells are sold separately but the grain on both pieces still matches up really well. Now for what I didn't like and this may just be an issue with how I assembled. The sections where the two shells join on the grips where your palms rest aren't flush and is a noticable defect when you're playing. This is a pretty common issue around aftermarket shells so keep that in mind. The design of the PS4 controller itself doesn't do this any favors as well. Not a huge complaint but I have a lot of sensory issues so that's my problem. I would also make sure you have the right model controller to match with this shell. I tried digging through the reviews before purchase but I couldn't find an accurate model number. The controller I was modding was a model CUH-ZCT2U when this shell seems like it was made for a CUH-ZCT1U (if I have that right). This may be the real reason the shells didn't fit totally flush but again that's my fault. The main difference between the 2U and the 1U is that the rubber padding on the PS button for the 2U controllers is held in place by two pegs much like the other buttons but the 1U just has the padding stretched over the PS button housing. This may sound like nonsense but if you pull apart a PS4 controller you'll see what I mean. Again this isn't a big issue and I was able to make it work regardless but it's something to keep in mind.10/10 would definitely recommend. Will likely buy another shell for my personal controller as this one was for a Christmas gift.

Good but just make sure you open your controller to see model for fit!!!
Very easy to install feels great in the hands not as slippery as the stock!!! Make sure you open your controller before you buy it and check the part number of your chip JDM-040 , 050, 055 and that your touch pad lights up because it won’t fit the gen 1 JDM-001, 011, 020 .. I bought this to see if it would fit my jdm030 but I’t did not so I put it on my newer jdm055 controller !!! And it fits perfectly no raised edges !!! So again caution if you gave it a bad review because it didn’t fit its cause you didn’t open your controller to see the model!!!

Controller casing feels durable and was relatively easy to install
I ordered this back casing along with a front casing from the same company. The back casing is just as high quality as the front, and was about as easy to install. The only problem I came across was the design of the notch for the PlayStation button. It appeared to be designed differently such that the rubber piece that holds the PlayStation button in place did not fit in properly. Because of this, the button isn't as secure as I'd like it to be. Instead, it requires a bit more effort than it otherwise should to press.Other than this slight issue, everything else fits nicely into the controller. The difference between this and the standard plating isn't noticeable in the hands. I would highly recommend picking up a back plate from this company if you're in the market for something new for your PS4 controller.

Very nice texture, doesn't rub off - Fits decently.
Very nice texture and it doesn't seem to rub off after being scratched or used for a while. Easy to install just make sure not to break any cables or ports while doing so.The bottom right part of the shell was a little off by around 2mm. Barely visible to the eye and you can't feel it on the controller, so it's not that big of a problem, especially for the price (cheapest back shell on amazon).Adds a nice look to my boring black controller!

Definitely worth it!
I actually bought two products from eXtremeRate, one is the bottom shell and the other is their blue-purple chameleon button replacements, both of which are featured in the images provided, but this review will focus exclusively on the bottom shell. I've actually bought eXtremeRate's shells before for the Nintendo Switch joycons and I was really happy with how soft and sleek it is to the touch, so I bought another shell for the PS4 controller. The shell did not disappoint. It was relatively easy to install, since I've done it before, but so long as you follow along with their YouTube installation guide, I didn't find any difficulties with the process. There are two main criticisms I have with the shell, which is why I only gave the shell 4*s instead of 5. The first is how the shell fits. As other reviews have mentioned, there ARE gaps in the shell, most notably at the top above the "SHARE" and "OPTIONS" buttons, as I have shown in image 4. The gap wasn't too bad for my specific shell, so it isn't a huge deal for me, but on the inner sides of the controller handles, there is a slight discrepancy between the sizes of the original Sony shell and the size of the new eXtremeRate shell. It's not obvious when you just look at it, hence why I didn't include a specific image to show it, but if you were to rub your finger along that seam, you can feel that the eXtremeRate shell is slightly higher than the original Sony shell. My other criticism is the finishing. Yes, I absolutely love how soft the shell is, but I really wish the manufacturer could have sanded and smoothed out the plastic a little more before they put the final soft textured coating on it. This is definitely me being nitpicky here, but I really would've preferred if the soft and sleek feeling was consistent all throughout the shell. All in all though, a really nice shell to use, especially if you're looking to change up your own controller aesthetically and/or feel wise. Definitely worth the price and overall, I'm really happy with my purchase!

Badly cut back shell would not fit either OEM or extremerate front shells
***Before reading further, please note this shell is for a V2 controller, my controller matches this shell model and requirements as per the amazon listing. ***This product is a joke. The shell is so badly cut that I could not apply this back shell to an OEM front shell or an extremetate branded front shell (made for use with this product). It would not close/seal shut with the front shell properly. The feel of this shell was also questionable. It's advertised as a "soft finish", realistically, it's just a cheap matte finish. You can tell just by looking at it that this thing is going to look like garbage from the back after use. The matte finish also did not have any grip.I could not even test this product in use, because I couldn't install it without fears of breaking my OEM/newly purchased extremerate shells or my controller motherboard during installation. For the price I paid? I paid 40 ish dollars for a front/back shell, when for 35 extra dollars I could have purchased a new controller. How does that make sense for a product with quality no better than the cheap china-made shells on eBay? Want to charge for a premium price, you'd better make sure the product is a premium one. Unacceptable.
