Vinnie Loves It!
Update 3/08/2025: Hey, Amazon! Still not stocking this as a basic SKU? What gives!?Update 11/16/24: Still loving this stuff! But, hey, Amazon, you really need to start stocking this again! I'm not about to pay as much for shipping, as the product itself costs! Other online vendors sell this for around $6.99/Bag, with FREE SHIPPING when the minimum qualifier is met. I can easily meet the minimum for free shipping, especially when adding my parrot food... I'd much rather get "product" for my money than incur shipping costs!Sincerely,RayBMy retired racing pigeon, Vinnie, loves this seed mix! And yes, he even eats the big, round peas!I make a proprietary mix based on this food, plus dried split peas, dried lentils, thistle seed, and a scoop from the outdoor finch mix I buy in 25 lb. bags.Vinnie sometimes binges on favorites, much like human persons nicking all the cashews and pecans out of the mixed nuts!I was told that Vinnie wouldn't eat split peas, but the occasional pea-green poops say otherwise!I was told pigeons won't eat thistle seed, but Vinnie's occasional jet-black poops say otherwise! And yes, I know what I'm doing. Ive had Vinnie since Feb. 2014. And my previous pigeon-companion, Bernie, was my best friend for one month shy of eighteen years; and as a PMV survivor, Bernie had serious health issues. Bernie, in particular, loved thistle seed!Note: Under ideal conditions, pigeons have been known to live over thirty years. Pigeons can make wonderful animal companions. These seed mixes are evidently quite "aromatic", as Vinnie will readily pounce on a freshly offered mix, even when "exposed seeds" are right there for the taking. So I keep his seed mix in a large, sealed, teddy bear cookie jar. And I keep his other seeds in large, sealed plastic tubs. I'm not sure how pigeons "taste", but they definitely have their favorites, and freshness certainly matters to them!PIGEONS FOREVER!RayB

A good mix
This dove mix is the foundation diet that I feed my pet fancy pigeons: fantail, holle cropper, and my favorite, pigmy pouter. I supplement this excellent Kaytee Dove and Pigeon Food by mixing into it some of each of these, about 1/2 lb of each: chipped or whole shelled sunflower seeds, safflower (above the amount already in it), yellow popcorn ("...."), lentils, split peas, and mung beans. All these supplemental seeds increase the protein and fat values of my final mix. I am not a pigeon breeder, just a fancy pigeon lover with only about a half dozen friendly pet pigeons in my small garden loft.MC

LOVE FOR THE DOVES!
I live in a heavily wooded area with wonderful wildlife and beautiful birds abound. My home's yard always has doves that visit, but a couple of years ago I rescued a baby with a broken wing. Noah, my special little dude, grew up healthy and happy, but he is still unable to fly. He's cage-bound but handheld and tame and he is a big part of my family. Even my three dogs enjoy his coos and company. I have been feeding Noah this dove seed ever since he was an adult. I also feed it to his dove friends outdoors so that he can visit with them during the cooler months. It's a terrific product and very well priced.

Packaging sucks. UPDATE: The food sucks.
The media could not be loaded. UPDATE: I found from experienced pigeon keepers that this food is actually not recommended for pigeons. It is lacking in the protein that pigeons need. It is not a nutritionally complete feed for pigeons.INITIAL POST: At first seeing the peas I was worried that they might be too big for my Pidgey to eat, but I think you can see in the video that he eats one up.You can see in the pictures that the bag came opened at the bottom so the food had spilled in the box. It's not too much of a problem for me because it's just seeds. It was easy to pour the feed that had spilled out back into the bag or into his food bowl. I am sad that I won't be able to keep the feed in its bag, but I have a container ready to swap it which is honestly probably a better way of storage anyways. Why the back of his head is bald and weird looking: I found my pigeon on the road outside our house looking like he got attacked by some predator. Emergency vet said that it looks like he suffered from some kind of thermal or chemical burn on the back of his head which is why it looks awful like that. It's been three weeks since he got hurt and he looks extremely better than when he was (even though it looks pretty bad still).Pidgey will be living the luxurious life for a long time until I feel comfortable letting him out to fly again. :)

Not only doves but others like it too
I think this is very good seed for variety of little friends in the garden . However, I need to limit the amount due to rats who arrived.

Dove crack
My local doves go bonkers for this seed. Very little goes to waste so it's a great value and much cleaner than other types of bird feed. It's a good mix of high quality seed doves can't resist.

Good for Mourning Doves
We had doves nesting on our porch & I wanted to make sure they had nearby food. Flocks of their friends came to eat this too! Our doves raised 3 broods over the summer, we enjoyed watching them! The food was clean, too, no Indian Meal Moths, dust or filler! We wanted our little doves to get a good start in life, there are so many perils out there for them!
