Artist Trading Card Workshop: Create, Collect, Swap

A classic.
I originally bought this book in paperback years ago. I have dragged it around so much, but on a whim I looked it up to see if a Kindle version was avaiable , and lo, it was!Fantastic book, a real classic. I know that the ATC craze has died off in Australia, but the wonderful range of basic mixed media techniques in this treasure will teanspose to art journalling or larger mixed media pieces.I really love this book, and am thrilled go have it at my finger tips wherever I please. The only minor complaint is the number of weirdly inserted letters and partial words scattered throughout. Not much proof reading was done. But that is a minor quibble, as the text is very much secondary to the illustrated steps and beautiful finished pieces of art.Again, I love this book. When I first got it, I was quite overwhelmed. But with a few more years of playing with paint under my belt is really inspiring. This book is like visiting with an old friend, you will come back time and time again.

Learn the Craft of Creating ATCs (Artist Trading Cards)
As an aspiring artist, I have put together a library of art and reference books. The book 'Artist Trading Card Workshop, is one of the first I purchased to learn how to make the small 2 1/2" by 3 1/2" pieces of art now know as ATCs. I made a very good choice. Not only does the author, Bernie Berlin, present you with a variety of the techniques you can use to create many different styles of artwork, but his step-by-step directions are clear and easy to follow. He also includes information on using different medias to create your own ATCs.All in all, I have to say 'Artist Trading Card Workshop' is an excellent and inspiring guide to the creation of a very personal and fairly new art form. If you want to make ATCs, this is the book for you! I cannot recommend it highly enough! A+++++

Not what I expected
I wanted to get a book with lots of different ideas of how to approach trading cards. Unfortunately the cards featured in this book are all pretty much the same visually. In addition it requires a lots of expensive equipment and supplies to use the different background techniques. While the different backgrounds are nice, this book has not been inspiring and was overall disappointing. If you are looking for inspiration to create a variety of different cards try "1000 Artist Journal Pages." Lots of different approaches as well as backgrounds.

Good book
Although most of the cards in the book are in a similar style, the techniques described will work for many styles. A treasure trove of ideas!

A beautiful book of instructions and artwork
I've only recently become interested in ATCs and collage, and this was the first book I bought on the subject. I was looking for a book that would have instructions for lots of techniques, not just a bunch of pretty pictures. Well, this book has lots of instructions AND lots of pretty pictures! I have tried a couple of the techniques, and I can't wait to try more. I'm also glad that quite a few of the techniques don't use specific brands of products; that can be a hassle if you can't find exactly what you're looking for. Some of these ATCs use simple materials like tissue paper, paper towels, and acrylic paint. How easy is that?I think I'm going to have a lot of fun with this book.

Lovely
Inspired artists offer a wonderful selection of ATCs. Each chapter offers several great ideas and more importantly, shows techniques. While some of the techniques might seem elementary to some artists - the "how-to" is very helpful to beginners. Don't worry, there are plenty of great ideas for advanced ATC artists as well and some nice variations of ideas. I thought that the general style was very similar throughout (not a huge variety) - very "collage styled." Wonderful examples of common object uses - not everything has to be "fine art" materials. This book proves that there is a place for artists and folk artists to rise above the term "crafter." Great resource page for materials and ATC groups.

Loving It!
This book has everything you need to know about Artist Trading Cards (ATC's) - history, art techniques, storage ideas, swapping guidance, and lots of inspirational pictures to look at. Although I'm an experienced artist, I found a few new techniques that I hadn't tried, as well as new applications for my skills. It's fun too! Rather you are into drawing, collaging, stamping, sewing, relief sculpture, or any other art form, there is a way for you to apply your skills to ATC's. Please note that some of the materials needed may be difficult to obtain in remote areas, but are readily available through the internet.)

A good place to start your ATC library
If you're reading this review, you've probably already been bitten by the ATC bug. If so, this is an excellent first book for what will surely become a multivolume addition to you art and craft library. The book assumes that you are already familiar with some basic crafting techniques, materials, and terms such as decoupage, gesso, embossing, foiling, etc. It uses those terms and concepts with wonderfully photographed examples of them applied to various artists' ATC creations. You'll get new ideas for trying different techniques and for mixing techniques and materials, and you'll look at this book over and over again for inspiration. You may well end up with more ATCs than spaces to stash them, and the book has suggestions for display and storage too. Got questions about ATCs and want to get started with making and trading them? Get this book and GO!

i do love it!
When i saw the cover i was hesitant believing that it would just be that style of artwork but as i read through i was impressed, the quality of print and paper is wonderful and the art is fantastic. It shows a wide variety of mixed media and styles from various artists it also gives guidance to those that love to create ACEO's/ artists trading cards.

Fabulous
This is the best ATC book I have found. It mainly focusses on background techniques, with a huge variety. It's not aimed at the absolute beginner, rather those wanting to extend their mixed media experience. If you like the art in Stampington publications, this book is for you.

Wow
I love this book. I bought it following a tip on you tube & the recomendations from other crafters on this site. It not only has good illustrations but it walks you through each technique. I would recomend this book to fellow ATC enthusiasts.

Useful Reading
This book was useful reading with particular concentration on how to make unusual backgrounds for ATCs. However I felt it was dated did not reflect the modern ATCs that the swap group that I belong to make.
