Nacho's Nachos; The Story Behind of World's Favorite Snack, is wonderful in every way. The prose is lively and engaging, and the illustrations are dynamic and historically accurate. Dominguez used a lovely palette that is perfect for this story about food, friendship and ingenuity. In her author's note, Nickel explains some of the challenges that all researchers face when they must synthesize contrasting oral accounts of a single incident. The tremendous amount of research that both the author and illustrator did make this book both sophisticated and approachable. It feels like a classic already!

Who doesn't love nachos? And now, with this wonderful biography, readers will love not only the delicious snack, but also the story of the amazing man behind it!One thing I love about this book is how much Nacho's personality shines through. Nacho's work ethic and his warm personality is what sets him apart from a young age and begins to open doors for him, eventually leading him to an opportunity to work at the Victory Club. It was here, when asked by a well-known woman in the area, to whip up a special treat for her and her friends that Nacho invented his special dish on a whim. It's lovely how his creation also hearkens back to what he learned from his foster mother when he was growing up.People of all ages will enjoy this book which gives the backstory of one the world's most beloved snack foods!

I always love picture book biographies that introduce me to someone I never heard about. And I love that the author and illustrator take us on a journey - in words and pictures. The art is fabulous...and the research that went into writing this story is awesome. And now there is a Spanish version - hurray!

What fun to meet the man behind one of our favorite snacks! I had no idea how nachos started, and it's wonderful to read this great tribute to Nacho and his ingenuity & hard work. I love that there's a spanish edition of this book as well.

I'm a fan of Sandra Nickel's picture book biographies in general--she relates the life of previously unsung role models with special care, and this story of Ignacio Anaya is no different. We learn how he grew up from the humblest of beginnings to become the creator the most delicious snack (in my humble opinion), simply by inverting the quesadilla recipe he grew up loving. Yet another testament to the fact that, often, the simplest things in life are the very best!

Very cute book, my kids enjoyed it and it was something different for them to read. We loved the story. The illustrations are so beautiful, I can't remember the last time I saw such vivid pictures in a children's book.
