Works well on my long haired cat
I just wanted to post here to let cat owners know this tool works well on their fur too, with no danger of nicking their thin skin. My Norwegian Forest cat has a double coat that mats terribly under his front legs each spring. He has a short dense undercoat and a long silky topcoat; the undercoat is what sheds out through the silky hair as the days get longer, creating terrible dreads and mats if he doesn’t wash it constantly. Using a detangling brush on him helps a lot, but areas that he can’t reach form large knots. These knots last indefinitely and must be cut out to spare his thin skin the pain of detangling. Some of them form really close to his skin and cause pain when he walks. This tool is perfect to prevent the mats from ever happening. I got the 10-blade version, and take about half an hour every 5-6 weeks to run it under his front legs and over his hips, where he knots the worst. It’s prevented all of the matting, and even helps detangle his chest hair which can form small knots if not cared for.It didn’t work on large established knots, and I didn’t expect it too. That would cause too much pain so this tool is more of a very excellent preventative.Update: it’s summer now and usually he’s miserable for about a month with the heat. I use this all over his coat to thin it out while still maintaining the protection it provides. His hair looks short and neat now and he’s much happier. I did this last summer too and the length returned in the autumn. Just be careful as it does somewhat cut the top layer down; he has a beautiful white ruff that hangs on his chest and I trimmed it unevenly. Just cosmetic, but be aware it will cut the top layer somewhat.

Well worth the cost
I was very skeptical when I received the comb. I thought wow $40 the others were $5 $6 well throw the five and six dollar ones away. I have a Great Pyrenees who absolutely loves to run through burs and brambles and they get stuck in everything under her little armpits all under her belly in her tail and I thought well I have tried every comb and brush in my box which was 10 of them and I bought the Mars dematting comb ran it through her fur and the burs came out effortlessly, the other Combs and brushes I had to literally pull her hair out or take scissors and trim not with the Mars you just brush it through her fur it's beautiful and she loves being brushed with it and she did not like being brushed with the other combs. Her big sister a mix breed Australian shepherd border collie who gets this undercoat that comes out in clumps in the spring this comb did wonders on her coat. I give this five paws. Both my fur babies love being brushed with it. I highly recommend it don't be discouraged by the price it is a very good comb and well made.

The Jury Is Still Out
UPDATE 07/28/2024I switched over to the Mars Coat King double-wide brushes, 23- and 30-tooth versions, and they have been night-and-day different from the original small version. These work. They are not miracle workers! Don't expect them to detangle the mats without some additional effort before you begin. I need t use a wide-toothed rake and a comb to get started, and these do the finishing work.In spite of the furry little idiot splashing in the creek every day, I can keep him groomed for three months now. Before, he had to be professionally groomed every three weeks if I didn't want him clipped. As I commented earlier, the initial problem was my fault - I had the wrong tool for the job at hand - and it had nothing to do with these brushes. They're great.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------UPDATE 05/12/2023The seller contacted me through Amazon and offered to make it right, which is amazing, but I declined their offer. I tried to make sure everyone understood my problem was using this tool on an Australian Shepherd with long, "crinkly" hair, and his coat probably contributed to the tool tugging on tangles. In my opinion, that's not the fault of the tool itself.I won't change my three-star rating for the effectiveness of the tool with MY Australian Shepherd, but I cannot recommend Oliver's Pet Care's customer service more highly. They're fantastic folk.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I live with an Australian Shepherd. Aussies have a dense undercoat they shed year 'round and I've tried every undercoat rake and comb I could find to keep him well groomed, but still need a professional groomer once each month to keep him from becoming one big tangle. Then I tried these Mars de-matters. They're almost great. Nothing I've used before now has done one-tenth as good for removing loose undercoat. They're fantastic as an undercoat rake.So far, they aren't as great with tangled or matted fur. The hype about tools like this claims they're gentler on the dog when removing or de-tangled their hair, but so far, after four brushings, I don't think that's true.He likes being brushed. He likes it a lot. But he's not happy when I get to work with the Mars de-matting tool.I've watched videos of how to use them and I'm pretty darned sure I'm doing it correctly, but even in areas where there are no tangles, these drag through his hair and I can see how that would get old real quick.Maybe I'll get better with it over time, and his coat is much softer and fluffier after using this tool, but I won't testify that it's gentle on him, tangled hair or no tangles.Australian Shepherds do not have silky hair. Their coat is almost the exact opposite of silky, and I have no doubt that's part of the reason the Mars de-matter drags through is hair and tugs on it more than I expected it would.I'm fence-straddling by giving it a three-star rating, neither positive or negative. It works great (five stars) but it tugs at his hair (one star) when I use it. Your mileage may vary.In spite of the downside I'm experiencing, this is a solid, very well-made tool and it does it's job of removing his undercoat before it can form a mat. I'd recommend it, especially if, like me, you live with a fuzzy, hairy dog who loves to leap into any kind of water he can find every chance he gets.

Great for Australian Shepherd
The 30 Brush did an amazing job of removing all of the dead undercoat that was in my girls fur. Throw away all your cheap rakes and buy this brush!Smoothly removed lots of hair, easy to use, easy to hold.

Got out my dogs mats!
I have a Great Pyrenees who is outdoors every day. About a year ago, he had so many mats he had to be put under and shaved down at the vet. He has always hated being brushed and I did my best after that but it wasn’t good enough. His elbows, rear end, belly and tail were all insanely matted yet again - with leaves, sticks and dirt in the mix. I ordered this brush, clippers, and some other mat cutter brush. This one did 95% of the work (I got the large dog 23-blade), while scissors did the other 5%. At first it didn’t seem like it was going to work. But once you get into it, it cut right through each 1/4” layer of matted hair with each swipe. I thought getting him groomed was going to be impossible for me to accomplish on my own but this brush made it happen. It took me probably 8 hours over the course of a week but he’s now completely dematted! He didn’t mind it at all, in fact he still wants me to brush him every evening - which I will continue to do with my furminator grooming rake (great for normal brushing!). He even lets me brush his tail now. Highly recommend this mat-cutter for the ones that are impossible to just brush out.

Works great
I'm amazed how well this works! After using it a few times per week, we notice a big difference in dog hair around the house especially on the couch!! For reference we have a border collie, his fur is mixed length. Highly recommend.

Amazing, game changer for stripping!
BEST PRODUCT! Struggled with cheaper versions of this from petshops. Purchased this and its worth every penny, cant believe i waited so long. Though smaller it strips faster and is easier to handle and can work areas that larger ones struggled such as legs and shoulders.I use this on my fine coated english cocker spaniel, before this brush i was feeling defeated and felt like grooming takes way to long...now i love grooming all because of this brush. Get it and you wont be sorry!

Furtastic! Buy it… it’s amazing.
I’ve tried numerous brushes and found them all good but this is ridiculously good. All this came out very easiest and quickly and in rush her every night with her old brush! It’s sturdy and feels like it’ll last forever. Very impressed.
