Martelli Sew Mate Multi Purpose Sewing Tool Pulls Lifts Tugs Rips

A nice tool,but awkward to pack to a retreat .

I ordered two of these, one for mom, one for me. Neither of them were sharp enough to even cut one thread, let alone a whole seam. When I contacted Martelli, they said it was a seam ripper and not meant to cut thread, that they had nippers for that. I told them I was trying to rip a seam, but it wouldn't even cut one thread. Then they asked if I'd watched the video showing how to use the tool. I said yes, and asked if I was supposed to sharpen it myself. They said no, and that if I wanted to I could send them back and choose something else. If these are both junk, why would I want something else? It's probably junk too. Shipping them back isn't worth it to me, but I won't buy another Martelli (made in China) product.
