Good basic TCM testing. Small book, easy to take along.
This is a straightforward testing book, which, near as I can tell, was written for the CAM text. It does a pretty good job on the basic TCM theory and foundations, channels and point applications. I focused primarily on the multiple choice questions; there are several chapters which have fill in the blank and matching type questions, but NCCAOM is multiple choice only. I believe the other types of questions were common on NCCAOM when this book was published in 1993. They are useful for challenge and review, even if NCCAOM doesn't have that type of question and answer. The questions are very clearly worded, similar to CAM. The text is somewhat large, certainly easy to read.Problem 1) poorly laid out answer key pages are a nightmare; it is a challenge simply to find the right page for your test (mark the answer key pages with a flag.) Then you have to identify which of the test keys listed is for the test you are grading; it is not clearly identified. And the answers are written in a continuous unstructured paragraph, for each test, very hard to read. I recommend photocopying the answer keys, and clearly marking which test is which. I tried highlighting in different colors for each exam on the edge of the test pages matching to the appropriate answer key. [i.e. Section 2 Test IV - highlight blue]Problem 2) like most test books, there are no explanations for most of the answers, just a simple answer key. There are a few sections with explanations, mostly key definitions and concepts, toward the back of the book. Like the questions in general, the explanations are easy to read.Problem 3) the questions on the NCCAOM exam can be more challenging than the questions in this study/test book. This is a good "first level" test book to pull all of the theory and applications of TCM together. But after that, a more recent text might be a good idea before the NCCAOM exams. Particularly for case studies; I'd recommend as many perspectives as possible for those, since NCCAOM tests from the styles of all the different texts. Also, I don't think all of the extra points listed by NCCAOM are used in this text.Problem 4) the scope of the test questions is limited; I do not remember any special techniques, or any herbal in this test bookFor the final exam prep, I recommend Review and Pretest for NCCAOM and California Exams in TCM Foundation and Acupuncture by Dongcheng Li, and Review and Pretest for NCCAOM and California Licensing Exams in Acupuncture with Point Location by Dongcheng Li. I also recommend taking advantage of the free all day online access to TCMtests on the first Tuesday of each month.

Very Good Practice Before Exams
Published by Foreign Languages Press, Beijing, China, one would expect a load of mistakes as one would normally find in translated TCM texts, but this book is surprisingly well designed. The majority of the questions here are MCQs. There are also structured questions and notes near the end.Topics covered range from basic TCM theory, diagnosis and acupucture. The degree of difficulty varies widely. Some of the questions that ask for the most appropriate acupuncture prescriptions can be very challenging. A very good book to help you gauge yur standard and boost your confiddence just before the exam.

Good practice
This book has a few errors but for the senior student this not a problem. Still very helpful for understanding what acupuncture is really about and for practice studying for the exams.

good practice book
for those who want to pass the exam, you can always learn by asking questions, get it wrong, and learn, and get it right. It helps students to know what is the weak point and what should study more. And for the types of questions, probably your exam doesn't have some types, but the content of the question helps you to get more views for one question. good practice book.
